hello
how are you?
it's been such a long, long time
come in
let's get closer
flash that famous smile

I've been thinking of you
since we've been apart
sweeping up the shavings
off my wooden heart

I know
some things change
but I wanna feel the way
I did with you that day
in l.a.

so, welcome
to a new york afternoon
we could watch the light fade
in my humble room

I know
some things wane
but I wanna feel the way
I did that summer day
in l.a.

from the hills above
we saw the valley below
and the ocean's endless blue
was it just because
I was so close to gone
my emotion rang it in true?

hey susan
do you wanna know?
what I've been through
on this other coast?

'cause I know
I'm not the same
but I wanna feel that way

I know
some things change
but I wanna steal a page
from that summer day
in l.a.

I wanna feel the way
I did with you that day
in l.a. ...

General Commentthe last verse is pretty much how I feel in a nutshell at any given time, and probably will be how I feel at any given time for many years to come, i guess. a song about longing for one of the best days he can remember, and wishing things could go back to that. at least he's got the time capsule of his memory, i guess.

I love how the part during "...and from the hills above, we saw the valley below..." sounds like a camera panning up as the sun rises over the ocean.
