Away to the side you move your head
Gravity fingers dig in your back
The strangest man won't let you breathe
Rocking on you in a movie scene

His words fill your mouth
His guests bleed sick
Devoid of touch
He lets out to the streets where you were raised
Sittin' home waiting for the coming age
You had to wait your turn
You had to wait your turn

Wake up early, wash up late
Satellites connect you to your hate
Your patience grows but your skin is thin
The pager signals they're coming in
Through the hole in the wall
You left the hole in the wall

Here's to the atom bomb
May everyone find a way to get on

A little piece of heaven is all you seek
In the same old re-run week after week
Their faces make you want to kill
The little piece of heaven singin' on the windowsill

No lights can turn you on
Pixelate the night
Reading the words
Of your eyes on the streets where you were born
Sittin' home waiting for the coming dawn
Near the hole in the wall
You left a hole in the wall

Hmmm, I've never tried to analyze this one. In some ways, I think this website is silly because songs don't have one definitive meaning and there will always be some people squabbling. People are interpreting things so literally that you end up with a summary of the song. A lot of things just make sense in their poetic form and don't need to be spelled out. Sometimes it ruins songs to analyze them. Anyway, this one's really calming for me. Parts of it just make sense in a way I can't explain.

Does any one think that this song, 'Cherry' and 'Where boys fear to tread' are somehow linked?

With the whole getting on the bomb idea as a metaphor for relationships that end badly, thus why boys fear to go there... just a thought as the lyrics are similar.

Yeah this version is way better than the Machina II verson.

I think this is about a man(possibly a husband/boyfriend but it could be a father/guardian) who abuses and rapes a young girl but she acts completely submissive and defeated so he would let his guard down(You Had to wait your turn/Sittin' home waiting for the coming age/Your patience grows but your skin is thin) and when he does she escapes possibly through her window(the hole in the wall)

I think the "escape" is more of a mental one.. the said person takes his/her mind elsewhere to escape his/her problems or what is or is fixing to happen to them.. kinda thinking of a better place, anything to keep you from the reality you're going through.. away of dealing with trauma.. thats the basic feel I get from it.. no need for an actual event play-by-play its a song written as a song.. the feeling is more important than the lyrics.. at least in this case.

    My Interpretation

First off... I couldn't agree more with missworld, but I can't resist on this one.

I think I have it on this song. It definitely goes along with the alt. HTTAB(I did an interpretation on that too). This is Billy the real person, rock star and all and the effect that this woman had on him. In the other song I think he was putting together a history and story for why she left giving her the benefit of the doubt. It was his way of coping. This is the song of raw break-up emotion, anger, confusion, hate, bitterness, disgust with things once pleasant.

I bet both these songs are a message from him to her. One he gave her the benefit of the doubt, here he tears her to pieces. (The song is even produced raw)

Away to the side you move your hand (He knows she let down her guard for him)

Gravity fingers dig in your back (She's regretting letting him in)

The strangest man won't let you breathe (Billy speaking of himself, he believes he held her close but too far with his paranoia)

Rocking on you in a movie scene (Saying his life and situation are not normal)

His words fill your mouth, (I think this is his ego thinking she was so lost she was asuming his personality.)

his guests bleed sick (his friends see whats happening to him and her as a couple and individually)

Devoid of touch (they don't dare interfere with Billy and his woman)

He lets out to the streets where you were raised (This is when he went looking for her in the last song. "to the night of the dead...")

Sittin' home waiting for the coming age (he sits in his mansion tearing himself apart hoping she'll come back)

You had to wait your turn (he's speaking to himself here, saying it took so long to let her let him in)

You had to wait your turn

Wake up early, wash up late (He's depressed, he sits around the house feeling sorry for himself)

Satellites connect you to your hate (Media. He's probably blaming his life/band on why this went wrong)

Your patience grows but your skin is thin (He bets she'll come back but its tearing him apart in the mean time)

The pager signals they're coming in (His responsibilities are becoming more demanding)

Through the hole in the wall

You left a hole in the wall (This is his wall, she's under his skin)

    Here's to the atom bomb

May everyone find a way to get on (Love is suicide ring familiar? You know its going to end badly but the ride is too fun to pass up)

A little piece of heaven is all you seek (He wants a glimmer of hope he'll get over her)

In the same old re-run week after week (his life is stuck on repeat, same routines)

Their faces make you want to kill (I bet he's referring to happy people in love, maybe friends of his)

Their little piece of heaven singin' on the windowsill (taunting him with their happiness. Probably a married couple trying to cheer him up)

No lights can turn you on (nothing can get him out of this funk)

Pixelate the night, reading the words Of your eyes on the streets where you were born (he's looking at computer pictures and poems of hers)

(Maybe Yelena... she was a photog and poet)

Sittin' home waiting for the coming dawn (waiting for the day when the pain passes, whenever that is)

Near the hole in the wall (Waiting in the place he can always be found)

You left a hole in the wall (She broke his heart and he broke hers but he's blaming her now)

It's not perfect but I gave it a crack. If you read it with the alt. interpretation it comes together better.

If you listen to both songs, it could be about both sides of abuse. Kinda like Japan and America in WWII. I guess here's to the atom bomb.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
