Lights out
I still hear the rain
These images that fill my head
Now keep my fingers from making mistakes
Tell my voice what it takes
To speak up
Speak up
And keep my conscience clean when I wake

Don't make this easy
I want you to mean it
Jasey (say you'll mean it)
You're dressed to kill
I'm calling you out (don't waste your time on me)

Now there's an aching in my back;
A stabbing pain that says I lack
The common sense and confidence
To bring an end to promises
That I make in times of desperate conversation
Hoping my night could be better than theirs in the end
Just say when

Don't make this easy
I want you to mean it
Jasey (say you'll mean it)
You're dressed to kill
I'm calling you out
(Don't waste your time on me)

I've never told a lie
And that makes me a liar
I've never made a bet, but we gamble with desire
I've never lit a match with intent to start a fire
But recently the flames are getting out of control

Call me a name
Kill me with words
Forget about me
It's what I deserve
I was your chance
To get out of this town
But I ditched the car and left you to

Wait outside
I hope the air will serve to remind you
That my heart is as cold as the clouds of your breath
And my words are as timed as the beating in my chest

like everyone else, i totally adore the acoustic version.

    ok, here's my take:

i think this is one of those heart breaker songs where the guy did the hurting instead of the usual. it's almost an apology except he's actually asking her to be mad at him coz he deserves it. (Call me a name, kill me with words, Forget about me, it's what I deserve)

he's guilty for what he did (or is about to do, even), the 'aching in my back' and 'stabbing pain' i think refer to guilt, or maybe his lack of backbone to do whatever should be done.

i think he's also saying that he never meant to hurt her. it's just that things got waaay too complicated.

towards the end of the song, you get the feeling that however sorry he is, he still doesn't love her, or even deserve her. he pretty much owns up to being a cold hearted bastard, saying that all he said were not sincere. "my words are as timed as the beating in my chest". i think that line says that his words are rehearsed, so i guess there's no sincerity or genuineness in them.

it's a sad take to it, but that's how i hear this song. Alex is brilliant.

    Song Meaning

Heres how I interpret this song; 'Lights out I still hear the rain'

    • This means that even when he's asleep he still hears and feels the sadness that Jasey felt. 'These images that fill my head Now keep my fingers from making mistakes Tell my voice what it takes to Speak up, speak up And keep my conscience clean when I wake'
    • Alex is like a robot, just performing and sleeping like something thats been programmed into him, because he feels so awful that he just is getting quite depressed and feels really guilty.

'Don't make this easy I want you to mean it, Jasey (Say you mean it) You're dressed to kill I'm calling you out (Don't waste your time on me)'

    • Alex had promised to take Jasey on tour with him after they had a one night stand but he couldn't so he's asking her to be mad at him cos he doesn't deserve her forgiveness. He's asking to speak to her and tells her that he's not worth it, because he feels so bad about what he's done.

'Now there's an aching in my back A stabbing pain that says I lack The common sense and confidence To bring an end to promises That I make in times of desperate conversation Hoping my night Could be better than theirs in the end (Just say when)'

    • This is again explaining the guilt weighing down on Alex's conscience, and tells us that he could't keep his promise that he made to her

'I've never told a lie And that makes me a liar I've never made a bet But we gamble with desire I've never lit a match With intent to start a fire But recently The flames are getting out of control

Call me a name, kill me with words Forget about me, it's what I deserve I was your chance to get out of this town But I ditched the car and left you to'

    • personally I love this bit in the song, but it's basically saying that he didn't mean to lie to her but he did, he didn't realise how much he was going to lose and how big the situation had got. He's asking Jasey to be mad at him cos he deserved it for letting her down'

'Wait outside I hope the air will serve to remind you That my heart is as cold As the clouds of your breath And my words are as timed As the beating in my chest'

    • This is him saying that he's such a bad person for what he did, and this whole song is really an apology and him facing up to what he did.

So yeah, I love this song and I think this is what it means, feel free to correct me!

The lights out, I still hear the rain, These images that fill my head, Now keep my fingers from making mistakes, Tell my voice what it takes, To speak up, Speak up, and keep my conscience clean when I wake.

(he saying he cant forget the past even now that it over and its keeping him from making the same mistakes so he wont have to feel it again)

Don't make this easy, I want you to mean it, Jasey. (say you mean it) You're dressed to kill, I'm calling you out, (don't waste your time on me)

(here he's saying that that nigh he just couldn't stop himself and that he didn't want her to be so easy)

Now there's an aching in my back; a stabbing pain that says I lack, the common sense and confidence, to bring an end to promises, that I make in times of desperate conversation, hoping my night could be better than theirs in the end. Just say when.

(hes saying that what happened is affectin him now and wishes he could have stopped what happened from happening and if only he were smart enough to stop from leading her on)

I've never told a lie, and that makes me a liar, I've never made a bet, but we gamble with desire, I've never lit a match, with intent to start a fire, but recently the flames, are getting out of control.

(hes saying he didnt mean for it to end up this way it was a mistake)

Call me a name, Kill me with words, Forget about me, It's what I deserve, I was your chance, to get out of this town, but I ditched the car, and left you to,

(he's saying he WANTS her to hurt him make him feel like how she felt that night and he's telling her it wont even be worth it ; he's not worth it he's sorry for leaving he hanging )

Wait outside, I hope the air will serve to remind you, that my heart is as cold as the clouds of your breath, and my words are as timed as the beating in my chest.

(here he's saying that he's a cold person and when he says things he almost never means them; he talks before he thinks.)

    Song Meaning

Ahh Atl, you've done it again. Namely Alex though (; I'm going to have to go with the crowd and say the acoustic is absolutely perfect. Here's my take on the meaning of Jasey Rae.

Lights out I still hear the rain These images that fill my head Now keep my fingers from making mistakes Tell my voice what it takes to Speak up, speak up And keep my conscience clean when I wake

He's thinking about how he could possibly keep his conscience clean after it's all over.

Don't make this easy I want you to mean it, Jasey (Say you mean it) You're dressed to kill I'm calling you out (Don't waste your time on me)

Everyone says they're confused about the "don't make this easy, I want you to mean it Jasey, say you'll mean it" part because if it was a one night stand, why would he be saying don't make this easy? But I think what he means is he told her a lot of things that weren't true to get to her to sleep with him, and maybe he was just hoping she'd just say she knows it'll be a one night stand regardless of what he told her. Maybe he's saying "don't make this easy, I want you to mean it" because it's easy for him so hurt people, he'd maybe rather her know it's a one night stand.

Now there's an aching in my back A stabbing pain that says I lack The common sense and confidence To bring an end to promises That I make in times of desperate conversation Hoping my night Could be better than theirs in the end (Just say when)

This is pure genius. He's saying he realizes that he lacks the common sense and the confidence to not make promises of love to her to get her to sleep with him. Plus, I'm sure the whole time he was just hoping he could end up having a better time than his friends who weren't having a one night stand.

Don't make this easy I want you to mean it, Jasey (Say you mean it) You're dressed to kill I'm calling you out (Don't waste your time on me)

He's saying please mean what you say about this only being a one night stand and set aside what I'm promising you. And that she was dressed to kill that's how it all started. He was just hoping she wouldn't waste her time on him.

I've never told a lie And that makes me a liar I've never made a bet But we gamble with desire I've never lit a match With intent to start a fire But recently The flames are getting out of control

He tries to think that he must have some good in him, saying "I've never told a lie". But everytime he tries to find good he contridicts himself because he knows he lies to her, gambles with his friends about her emotions/desire and having a one night stand with her. He also says all he wanted was a one night stand, but it turned into her emotions getting involved with the sex and it got out of control.

Call me a name, kill me with words Forget about me, it's what I deserve I was your chance to get out of this town

He's saying for her to hurt him as bad as he hurt her and just forget about him. Maybe she talked about running away with him?

But I ditched the car and left you to Wait outside

He left her after the one night stand not caring.

I hope the air will serve to remind you That my heart is as cold As the clouds of your breath And my words are as timed As the beating in my chest

He's saying he tried to warn her but he promised her things because a one night stand was more important to him than her feelings and that at the time his heart was cold and unmoved by what he did, and that to get her to have sex with him his words were well rehearsed and timed.

That's my take on it. Ahh, i love ATL<3 I can listen to this song over and over again. Gahh, Alex you're gorgeous and being a dbag makes your songs 10x as beautiful. Sad, but beautiful.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
