It was way past midnight, and she still couldn't fall asleep
This night the dream was leaving, she tried so hard to keep
And with the new day's dawning she felt it drifting away
Not only for a cruise, not only for a day

Too long ago, too long apart
She couldn't wait another day for the captain of her heart
As the day came up she made a start
She stopped waiting another day for the captain of her heart

General CommentA friend of mine was convinced that the lyrics were "She couldn't wait another day for me, the captain of her heart", like Kurt Maloo snuck a little "me" into the middle of the line. After that I used to play this tape when my friend was in the car and I'd sing the "me" at the appropriate spot and he'd get so excited, wanting so badly to believe he was right.

A year later, as I was entering Basic Training and being suited up with my uniforms, this song happened to come over the PA system and I had a little flashback of that time.

General CommentThis song takes me back....summer 1986....teenage angst....a Danish girl named Ann Juul Jorgenson....innocence and optimism tinged with sadness....magic!

General CommentI doubt this song will ever have many comments despite it's haunting beauty, but just in case the correct pronunciation of the artist is "Dooblay". The guy who sang this died of a heart attack long before his time sadly.

MemoryThis has special meaning to me. I was born in '83, so I was still a toddler when this song was popular. My dad used to call me the "captain of his heart," and this sort of became our song. Every time I hear it it brings me back to those days of innocence when I would long to spend every moment with him.

It wasn't until years later I realized the song wasn't "Captain of *MY* Heart," but the meaning remains for me.

It's a tad ironic that also, years later, I'd acquire the nickname "Kaptin," as reflected in my login.

General CommentCool story Kaptin. I was born in '82. I remember laying in my bed late at night with the window open and a small clock radio playing softly by my bed. This song always kept me in good company.

General CommentYou see all the pretty young girls going about their business. But one of them has a determined yet very sad look on her face. Her heart is broken, she has decided to drive down to the river and drown herself and she does. The next day again you see the pretty girls out and about. But one of them will be forever missing. This video is simple but brilliantly effective; the greatest tear jerker in video history. The look on the determined suicidal girls face, combined with the drowning scene; then the next day; everything is as the day before minus one human being.

General CommentI have always believed that the song was about a naval aviator "Captain" shot down in the Vietnam war. His wife was used to waiting for him each time he left on a "cruise" , but she his time, not knowing if he was either killed or POW, she finally decided to stop waiting and move on with her life. A sad but all too often occurrence in the post was era.

General CommentAge of innocence, a blind romantic love . Perhaps as a true heart feels only once.

General CommentI dedicated this song long ago, around 1985 to my (girl) friend who at that time wasnt with me for various reasons. Time passed by, she eventually broke up and we started dating. We were together for 8 years, and now after 32 years together and 23 married I still remember this song as one I listened to in cassettes havind long night drives thinking she was waiting for us.... she did
