"Everybody Knows You Cried Last Night" as written by and John Lawler....
She said oh my, I don't know why
I was just busy watching everyone go by
Outside the shite bar, and you're a red car
Me and your girlfriend and your sister with the big scar

I said oh Christ, I told you twice
It's just not easy going through all these things thrice
What's this I wonder, you drive a bluebird
You got no money for the petrol, that's what I heard

And it's all right, she'll be sucking fingers all night
Wearing those shoes, oh any excuse to go to the gang fight
And oh she's alright, everybody says she's uptight
Sick in the head, first in the bed
So easy to be Friday's nightmare

I said oh no, oh please just go
You got no eyelids and sweet ella loves me so
She got my number, though I can't stand her
I can't help diggin her a hope I guess I wonder
And oh it's clear, you want me dear
It would be easier if I was never here
You got the money, and I got the reason,
I'll stick around with you for just another season

And it's alright, she'll be sucking fingers all night
Wearing those shoes, oh any excuse to go to the gang fight
And oh she's alright, everybody says she's uptight
Sick in the head, first in the bed
So easy to be Friday's nightmare

She's just getting along,
So don't tell me she's yours
Oh please tell me I'm wrong again
It's all in a daze/day,
So what can you say
Just; sleep in yer shoes
With the winterbox blues
Any time you choose, Oh yeah

She said oh my, I don't know why
I was just busy watching everyone go by
Outside the shite bar, and you're a red car
Me and your girlfriend and your sister with the big scar

She said oh Christ, I told you twice
It's just not easy going through all these things thrice
What's this I wonder, you drive a bluebird
You got no money for the petrol, that's what I heard

And it's alright, she'll be sucking fingers all night
Wearing those shoes, oh any excuse to go to the gang fight
And oh she's alright, everybody says she's uptight
Sick in the head, first in the bed
So easy to be Friday's wonder

General Commenti disagree wit claire bear21.
i think its about a girl hu is naive an sleeps wit lads 4 love, only 2 b used agen an agen. "You can only wish that you were married to me" - she wants more but never gets it.
    "Well, that’s what you get
    Oh don’t get upset"
but thats jus wot i get from it...

General Commenti agree with part of what blugirl said...i think it's about a girl who sleeps with lost of guys hoping to find something more in terms of relationships but she always gets nothing...and he just wants sex from her...that's what i conclude...

General CommentIt's obviously about a whore or a girl that looks for love in all the wrong places. She's looking for an escape, but no one cares or wants her, they think that she's stupid. It's rather depressing. Great song, though.

General Commenti think its about a really naive/young girl or hooker maybe trying to be accepted (Give the boys a flash and they’ll love you so/give the girls some cash cause your mother said so) and the boys realize shes naive so they just sorta take advantage of it all for sex. then one guy tells her that and makes her cry, and 'everybody knows [she] cried last night' since she realized how stupid she was being. not sure about some of it, but thats what i think...its one of my favorite songs! catchy too.

My InterpretationIn my opinion, from hearing it, and from my (limited) experience, it sounds like he's calling a girl a whore and making fun of her, not talking about a literal whore. It sounds like he tried to woo her once and got rejected and now she's coming back to him and he's rejecting her and telling her she's a whore, which makes her cry.

"Whistle for the boys now don't be shy
Give us all a song and a reason why"
It sounds like he's egging her on. He's kind of like, 'go on, show me I'm right.'

"Baby got the bones and a hand me down
Says her heart is black but her eyes are brown"
I don't exactly know what the first line means. Maybe it's a reference to she got her whoriness from her mother or something, but the second one I think is a reference to the fact that she's trying to gain some pity. You ever meet people like that? Where they're like, 'Oh I'm such a terrible person!' Just to hear that they aren't. And you just want to go, 'Yes, yes you are a terrible person.' I think the eyes are brown thing alludes to the fact that she's so full of shit her eyes are brown.

"Give the boys a flash and they'll love you so
Give the girl some cash cause your mother said so"
The first line is obvious, he's ironically naming the upside of being a whore and the second line names the downside of being chivalrous.

"And take em out to look at the queen
And any old girl who's in between"
I don't exactly understand these lines. I don't know if he's comparing her to a queen and any ol' girl who's in between, or if he's just describing an odd date or something. I figure every time he says them, he means whores, and by whores, he means the girl.

"Lay yourself down by the side of the bed
Oh you naughty girl you know you tickle me red"
And this is where he uses her. He also uses 'tickle me red,' which means she amuses him in how much he hates and despises her. Basically, he hates her so much, it's funny.

"You look so dumb and you sound so twee
And you can only wish that you was married to me"
I don't know if he has sex with her at this point, or just gets her naked and leaves, but either way, he's embarrassed and degraded her. She thinks she loves him now, but he tells her she could only wish she was married to him.

    "Well, that's what you get
    Oh don't get upset"
According to him, she deserved it. She shouldn't have acted like such a whore.

    "Ridiculous you
Waiting in the queue oh whoopee doo"
The first line is simple. But the second line can be taken in two ways. He could either be saying SHE was waiting in his queue, like another stupid girl he just uses. OR, HE could have been waiting in her queue. Basically like, she had rejected him prior, so he was just waiting for her to be open while she was serving everyone else. He ends it with 'oh whoopee doo,' which I figure means I decided to give up on her.

    "You could have been
    The best that I've seen"
These lines represent the idea that she COULD have been with him, had she not been such a tramp and a bitch.

    "Under the red light
Everybody knows you cried last night"
And now she cries under the light of the fact that she's a whore, and I think he's bragging about it, or she's trying to ask everyone to feel sorry for her.

"Give us all a go till your face turns red
Little Greg said you went home instead"
More whorish deviancy, but his friend Greg says she stopped.

"If you stick around you'll get an alibi
And we'll try and keep your pretty face bone dry"
He's just mocking her attempt at trying to be clean again. Alibi are used by suspects, obviously, and so he's basically saying people will always suspect her of being a whore, and everyone can try to deny it, but it's always there. You have no excuse.

"Rent a honey rent a honey one two three
Chasing all the boys from your door cant be easy"
He continues to mock her attempt to act clean again. She's developed the reputation and now she can't shake it.

"Well, Ruby said you was wrecked
But your was never well 'haved the last time I checked"
The girl get's incredibly depressed (or she gives up and goes out for a night of whoring), and he doesn't care at all.

I feel this is basically just a revenge song. Don't get me wrong. I love this song, and it makes me really happy that it exists. Some girls can be cruel, and sometimes they deserve a little cruelty back. I know a girl like this, actually, and she completely ruined me, and I really wish I could basically say all these things to her. But I'm too well mannered for that.

General CommentI think this is about a girl who is pressured into having sex with a lot of people at a party to fit in and then regrets it, told from the point of view of one of the lads who had sex with her

Whistle for the boys now don't be shy
Give us all a song and a reason why
Clearly this is some sort of pressure from "the boys" for her to "whistle" or to entertain them, the plural of "boys" sounds to me like they're catcalling her and having a laugh about her

Baby got the bones and a hand me down
Says her heart is black but her eyes are brown
I'm not quite sure about the first line either, I think "hand me down" suggests childlike as well, you don't get hand me downs when you're an adult. I think use of the word "baby" is a double-meaning word, signifying the slight sexual connotations but also the literal meaning of "baby" and innocence.
I disagree with the other comment on the brown eyes thing. I think brown eyes tend to signify innocence or naivity because they tend to look bigger than blue. I think she's saying her "heart it black", pretending to be cool and "bad" when really "her eyes are brown", she's innocent.

Give the boys a flash and they'll love you so
Give the girl some cash cause your mother said so
Clearly this is the girl being desperate to fit in, and ending up being used for her body or her money
And take em out to look at the queen
And any old girl who's in between
I think this might be a tease about her being rich or posh. The idea of all the fancy people in England sounding like the Queen is common, so perhaps this girl is being teased and having jokes made at her expense which is what leads her to do whatever to get people to like her

Lay yourself down by the side of the bed
Oh you naughty girl you know you tickle me red
Clearly she's had sex with him. I'm not sure what "tickle me red" means, perhaps the other answer is right with the mix of anger and amusment. Perhaps he is angry and having sex with her aggresively, which leads to his amusment and entertainment

You look so dumb and you sound so twee
And you can only wish that you was married to me
After they've had sex he's immediately insulting her again. She might be sounding "twee" because she's suggesting their should be a romance, which is where he responds she "can only wish". Perhaps this is her desperation to be accepted or loved and he's telling her she never will be.

    Well, that's what you get
    Oh don't get upset
    Ridiculous you
He's blaming her for her upset, it's her fault now for sleeping with people. And it's "ridiculous" of her to be upset

Waiting in the queue oh whoopee doo
"Whoopee doo" is a dismissive thing to say to a girl who's upset, I think the chorus sounds like a few people, perhaps a group of people she knows making fun of her. She's upset, and regrets what happened but none of them care

    You could have been
    The best that I've seen
    Under the red light
They're now teasing her, implying she's a prostitute,
Everybody knows you cried last night
And this is the line which leads to my interpretation. This clearly sounds like a schoolfriend thing to say, "everybody" would be a big crowd of people, who find it funny that she's been upset

Give us all a go till your face turns red
Little Greg said you went home instead
Clearly all the boys she's slept with want another go, her facing turning "red" suggests pain, embarassment, fear. Perhaps she's crying or regretting the act whilst it's still happening. This is a very bullying thing to say. "Little Greg" has told them she's gone home, she doesn't want to be there in that sort of enviroment anymore

If you stick around you'll get an alibi
And we'll try and keep your pretty face bone dry
I'm not sure what her "alibi" would be. But them trying to not have her cry means that she's in a situation where she could be crying. "Pretty face" is also dismissive and condescending, they're not really that fussed about her crying

Rent a honey rent a honey one two three
Chasing all the boys from your door can't be easy
This is again teasing her about what happened, again suggesting that she's a prostitute, or easy enough for a lot of people to want a "go".

Well Ruby said you was wrecked
But you was never well behaved the last time I checked
"Ruby" has told people that she was upset, perhaps trying to fix her reputation but they dismiss this and respond that the things she did has already tarnished her reputation. This again sounds like a school environment thing to be said. Passing messages, the use of "Ruby said" "Little Greg said" it sounds like gossip and messages being passed

Everybody knows you cried last night
Everybody knows you cried last night
This is the final words and is chanted almost, sounding like playground gossip, bullying. The girl has made a mistake and they're not going to let her forget it.

    General Commentred light..?
perhaps a referance from Roxanne by Sting&the Police:
'you dont have to turn on the red light'
which would imply the girl was a prostitute.
