Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Oh
There goes my Valentine again
I'm soaked in red for what she said
And now she's gone
Oh my God, have I done it again?
There's a pulse that is deafening
I can't help what I hear in my head,
It's the switch that I flip (when you said)
Hand of blood
I don't want to feel, my heart is breaking
Hand of blood
I don't want to see, my life is burning
I saw you look away
Is what you've seen too much to take
Or are you blind and seeing nothing
(I saw you run)
I saw you run away
Is what I've done too much to take
Or are you scared of being nothing
There's a stain on my hand and it's red
Oh my God, am I losing it?
I can't help what I've done or I've said
It's a button I push (when you say)
Hand of blood
I don't want to feel, my heart is breaking
Hand of blood
I don't want to see, my life is burning
I saw you look away
Is what you've seen too much to take
Or are you blind and seeing nothing
(I saw you run)
I saw you run away
Is what I've done too much to take
Or are you scared of being nothing?

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
What's the difference between Opinion and Interpretation?
I love this song.
I tried posting these lyrics ages ago, it doesn't work for me :S anyway...this song rocks!
no one actually know what this songs about? i think he might be angry about his ex or something, an his lifes falling apart without her, i really have no idea im prob jus talking out the light in my ass
this song is about killing his girlfriend...obviously fictional. he said that when i saw them playing download festival before they played the song.
It's a song about the pure mental emotion and anger someone can make you feel when it all fucks up. Probably about all the shit that goes on in your head when someone messes you about...
Absolutely love the riffs and solo's
cool band. riffs are back bitccchhh000r
Fucking incredible song. Bring back this kind of metal. They are awesome live, don't surpass the chance to see them! I agree with beni_ffaf, it's about anger and emotion. I'm surprised no-one's thought about the obvious surface meaning...murder. I think it's about a guy who's relationship was dissolving, ("I saw you look away", "Is what I've done too much to take?")it made him angry and drove him mad ("I can't help what I hear in my head, it's the flip that I switch")and he ended up slaughtering his girlfriend, hence 'Hand of Blood'- blood on his hands for her death, and the first line, meaning he believes she got what she deserved. This is just my interpretation. There is so much fury in this song, it's alive! Over and out.
I actually don't think it's about murder. I think the blood is symbolic to his broken heart. I think it's like she's breaking his heart and ending it and he can't take it and he's just pissed off beyond belief. I think the whole "Is what ive done to much to take or are you scared of being nothing? " is about how he's reacting to the breakup and she's leaving because she's afraid of what people will think about what she did to him.
it is about murder. he announced that the song was about killing his girlfriend when they played live
This song is way awesome, i just heard them today for the first time and I love them!
i agree with the people whove said its about a broken relasionship... but me thinks that the relasionship broke down because of something that hes done ( is what ive odne too much to take) and hes gone mad at himself for ending somethign that he cant live without..
this is such a fab song, the riffs and the anger, and the general honest anger in the song is incredible!!!
cant wait for the next album..WOOOOOP
hey i agree with this too. his girl broke up with him because of something he did or said and now he is having trouble dealing with it so he kills her. that explains the blood on his hands
