Everyone loves a man, who lets the hardest people build him up and cut him down to lovable size
And somebody holds a candle, by right it tastes all longing
Words are remembered: us and them, you love, you despise

I've seen the years go by in triple lines of gray
Oh, you were always on the ground
You're always on the ground
If I could catch you, I would hold you for a day
Oh, won't you do this when you can
Do what you can

I've seen the hardest people soften in the spotlight
Won't you stop and breathe, tell me what you want to feel
I could draw on all these things, baby I feel this beauty pull me to a
Soft and warm, I know this all I need, why don't we learn to grieve
Baby I'd leave you for the person you used to be

Everyone has a secret, so bite your mother tongue
And let the truth bleed over you, you wolf in sheep-skin
You can never describe the future, but you can paint the past
In shades of blue, or money used with pneumonic charm

God, shake this sickness, won't this decade ever end?
Oh, it's be going on for years
Been happening for years
Can't face the truth, why can't things just be begin
Because they always end in tears
They always end in tears

I've seen the hardest people soften in the spotlight
Won't you stop and breathe, tell me what you want to feel
I could draw on all these things, baby I feel this beauty pull me to a
Soft and warm, I know this all I need, why don't we learn to grieve
Baby I'd leave you for the person you used to be

You are so young, so feel alive
And one day you will live on your own

General CommentThis is one of my fave Voxtrot songs, and the meaning has always been very clear to me. It's about the end of a relationship which falls apart because the partners change and they're no longer compatible with one another. The narrator (male or female, doesn't really matter) is clinging to a dying relationship and reflecting on times when it used to work and what went wrong.

Maybe it's that "Baby I'd leave you for the person you used to be" just jumps out at me as one of the best lyrics I've ever heart, but I also feel it explains the entire song: a narrator yearning for a person, and by extension, relationship, that no longer exists.

My InterpretationI believe this song talks about giving into peer pressure, and someone losing a lover to the "in crowd". Especially the lyrics,
"Everyone loves a man, who lets the hardest people build him up and cut him down to lovable size"
I believe this means that everyone loves a person who can be cut down to conform.

"I've seen the hardest people soften in the spotlight
Won't you stop and breathe, tell me what you want to feel"
He's questioning, "How do YOU want to feel?" & also saying that the subject gives in under pressure, which is the spotlight.

"Baby I'd leave you for the person you used to be"
Pretty self explanatory, he longs for the subject to be who they used to be.

"You are so young, so feel alive
And one day you will live on your own"
He's saying that you pretty much have your own life, you're young, live for yourself and you will be more successful and independent.

Overall this song has such a sad, nostalgic message to it, but it's nonetheless absolutely positive with it's message. I admit to giving into to pressure to fit in, and I haven't exactly "lived for myself", and I completely understand the disappointment he feels when he explains how the person has changed, and he longs for the days when the person lived their own life, not when someone lived it for them.
Beautiful song, one of my favorites by Voxtrot.

General CommentI BELIEVE. That: "Words are remembered us and them" is not the lyric, it is something closer to "Worlds of men blurred us and them"

also it is "shades of blue or money HUES" not money "used".

Also "always underground" over "always on the ground"

Ramesh takes on too much. He just can't stop painting.

The through line and pov of this voice is an attempt at hope. Laughing while the city falls down around you. The laughter is not sadistic. Noticing all of the hypocrisy and fear in life but knowing beauty and change exist too. ALSO
The lyric that is the most human isn't "I'd leave you for the person you used to be" it's "God shake the sickness won't this decade ever end?".

General CommentIt's "one day we will learn to grieve".
    Everything else sounds alright though.

To me, it's about suffocation. And about a man who sees a woman so pressured by society that he fears he's losing her to someone she's not.

Being pressured by your peers is losing your identity in a sea of conformity.
And when you lose yourself, others live for you. They decide how you dress, eat, talk, etc.
    It deadens you.

"You are so young, so feel alive
And one day you will live on your own"

"Baby I'd leave you for the person you used to be"

"Oh, you were always on the ground
    You're always on the ground
If I could catch you, I would hold you for a day
Oh, won't you do this when you can
    Do what you can"

That's how I hear it, at least.

General CommentTo me this song means alot,Ive had my boyfriend Erik for 2years And recently Ive been into smoking pot, partying, drinking and Ive done alot put him through alot. Ive made DUMB dicisions while doing so,So I think this song means how he feels like hes losing a girl he loves through society and peer pressure and how shes changed for the worse and how he misses the old her. "Baby Id leave you for the person you used to be".

"You are so young so feel alive"- I think hes giving her advice on how she knows that shes messing up and she feels so worrned down,Hes telling her to act her age and now to grow up fat.

To Mickyvasquez: The open sheep skin means shes someone acting to be someone else and you can tell, see right through her.
