"Grace" as written by Kate C. Havnevik and Sean Eugene Mcghee....
I'm on my knees
Only memories
Are left for me to hold

Don't know how
But I'll get by
Slowly pull myself together

There's no escape
So keep me safe
This feels so unreal

Nothing comes easily
Fill this empty space
Nothing is like it seems
Turn my grief to grace

I feel the cold
Loneliness unfold
Like from another world

Come what may
I won't fade away
But I know I might change

Nothing comes easily
Fill this empty space
Nothing is like it was
Turn my grief to grace

Nothing comes easily
Where do I begin?
Nothing can bring me peace
I've lost everything
I just want to feel your embrace

General CommentSuch a slow beautiful song. To me it just seems to mean that even with the world crashing and life being chaotic that being in their lover's embrace it all just seems to be alright even if just for a little while.

    'Nothing comes easily
    Fill this empty space
    Nothing is like it was
    Turn my grief to grace'

General CommentI think this song is about a break up.

    "Don’t know how
    but I’ll get by
    Slowly pull myself together"

Getting over someone isn't easy, and where she says "Turn my grief to grace" is like asking for a break from the hurt and pain she's feeling.

    "I feel the cold
    Loneliness unfold
    Like from another world"

The feeling on loneliness is something she has never felt before and it's so foreign to her like something from another world.

That's my take on it anyways

General CommentOk I confess I'm one of those who first heard this song on the soundtrack of a tv series, in this case, Grey's Anatomy... but it's such a great song.

For myself, when I listen to this song, I see an image of clouds and lightness where nothing matters except you and me. It's like in this instant, no matter how things are in reality, we are in another world and you are my world, and there's no better feeling in the world in this.

General CommentOn Grey's Anatomy's official website, Kate says that she was asked to write the song for the show. It's about devasting loss. If you watch the show, you know what that means. And if you don't...watch the show!!

Beautiful, beautiful song. And I love the fact that it can mean different things to different people.

General CommentI think this song is about death of a loved one. Like, he's died, and she cant really comprehend it ("This feels so unreal") and now she is trying to pick up the peices of her life.

    General CommentHi everyone,
When I listened to it I also thought it was about someone close to her (her boyfriend) who had died (especially with the way she said "grief") but that didn't really go with the scene in Grey's. "Devastating Loss" makes sense though. Lyrics like, "I've lost everything", "feel the cold loneliness unfold" definitely support this. She's grieving and trying to recover from her loss, but it still seems recent so she can't really accept that it's real.
Anyway, Beautiful song with gorgeous lyrics. So sad.

General CommentEveryone has talked about the whole Denny-dying thing that has to do with the song, but what about Meredith and Derek having sex at the same time?

    "There’s no escape
    So keep me safe
    This feels so unreal"

Meredith, her whiny little self, is confused of course and she knows she loves Derek, but wants to love Finn.
That verse fit absolutely perfectly during their intimate moments, because you could tell they both felt complete and utter happiness, even though they were both cheating on the people they should be with instead.

I think it's about devastating loss, on the one hand, but also feeling completely safe with someone as well.
