You were born with a heart that can never be filled
And a head like snow that can never be still
There are streets paved in gold that shine so bright
That you force yourself to look away

If we cant see now, we might never see
We only kill ourselves more slowly
If you cant afford love, then you will finally see
How we kill ourselves slowly

The words that fall from your mouth
They crystallize and break on the ground
And everything you want, you cant have
But you force yourself to look away

If we cant see now, we might never see
We only kill ourselves more slowly
If you cant afford love, then you will finally see
How we kill ourselves slowly

If you cant find me then you cant find love
If you close your eyes then will finally see
That you are already here with me

Such a beautiful song. I think its about not seeing how we hurt ourselves sometimes by not allowing ourselves to love.

this song makes me think of someone being in love but not accepting or going along with it, due to fear or something. but if they would just open their eyes and take a chance, itd be ok. its all right in front of them. they just need to see it.

    ilovethissong.

    i agree completely with jes.

and i'm of course stuck in this situation now, but the other person is the one in fear.

love is all about risk people, yet we live our lives in fear.

& love is nothing to be afraid of - if it's real, it's forever.

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
