"Go By (Live)" as written by and Steven P. Smith....
Go on parade and fade
Hit the scene and slow
Spending all your time with some girl
You'll never get to know

Wound up tight
Dressed all in white
Some torn main sail
Blowing out to drift
Leave you even if

You live up in your head
Scared of every little noise
Someone's always breaking in accidentally
Using nothing but their voice

Shrill and small
Echo down the hall
Repeating pet names
See it in your eyes
You're only passing by

Go by, go by
Go by, go by

Someone's in the way
Of pretty words and inside slurs
All the things they have to say to perform
The work that they've rehearsed

It's a waste of time
I'd put it behind me once and for all
And let the hype decline
If the problem wasn't mine

Go by, go by
Go by, go by
Go by, go by
Go by, go by

General CommentWow. These are pretty wrong. Here are the correct lyrics, at least from the Confusion recording:

You waited a little while by a wetted sunset street,
And a lady, looking tired, comes along to take away your dream.
    Cause he thought you might come by tonight;
She thought so, too, to hear the way he talks, eyes trained to the cross.
He lives up in his head, scared of every little door.
Someone’s always breaking in accidentally, using nothing but their voice.
But he walks along, extremely alone, down your one way,
Across the great divide where no two paths collide.
    Go by, go by.
    Go by, go by.
You won’t come by tonight, but if you did you’d only curse
All the things he’d have to say to perform the works that you’ve rehearsed.
Like your happy song that he’d interpret wrong—you’d make him cry.
It’s how you’re gonna win, beginning at the end.
    Go by, go by.
    Go by, go by.
    Go by, go by.
    Go by, go by.

    General Commentyeeeeeeeeeeah, no. lyrics are:

    Go on parade and fade
    Hit the scene in slow
Spending all your time with some girl
    You'll never get to know
    Wound up tight
    Dressed all in white
    Some torment saint
    Blowing out to drift
    Leave you even if

You live up in your head
    Scared of every little noise
    Someone's always breaking in accidentally
    Using nothing but their voice
    Shrill and small
    Echo down the hall
    Repeating pet names
    Seeing it in your eyes
    You're only passing by
    Go by
    Someone's in the way
    Pretty words and inside slurs
All the things they have to say
To perform the work that they've rehearsed
    It's a waste of time
    I put it behind me
    Once and for all
    And let the hype decline
    If the problem wasn't mine

General CommentI still like the lyrics from the Confusion recording better than the New Moon version. It seems to make more sense.

General CommentThe REASON the lyrics are "wrong" here is because they're from a live version. NOT the New Moon version, which was released AFTER the live version came about.

General CommentOK... because the new moon version is the only one i'm familiar with

"you live up in your head scared of every little noise. Someone's always breaking in accidentally using nothing but their voice"

i just love those lines; they hit close to home for me

General CommentI wish people would get their facts straight before posting.

The new moon version of this song was originally recorded in 1996 and the live version is from 1999, Elliott was a perfectionist and often would alter his lyrics until he felt they were right thus we have different lyrics for the same song. This song was originally titled two timed and only recently (after new moon release) the demo has leaked.

Knowing that he performed this in 1999 one could surmise that theres a demo recorded in this period that was in contention for figure 8.

General CommentI'm pretty sure it's about hes period in the mental house...

"Spending all your time with some girl" nure may b
    or other patient

    "Wound up tight
    Dressed all in white
    Some torment saint"

    mmm...

"You live up in your head
    Scared of every little noise
    Someone's always breaking in accidentally
    Using nothing but their voice"

    mm...

    "Shrill and small
    Echo down the hall
    Repeating pet names"

    the hall of the hospital
and reapiting pet names cos they'r psycho

    "It's a waste of time
    I put it behind me
    Once and for all
    And let the hype decline
    If the problem wasn't mine"

i think what he was trying to say its
that he must be putting out from his head that he's like the other psycho in there...

this is what i think :p

General Commentwow. the new moon version at least is about a relationship, possibly a marriage (thus the dressed all in white bit) that is drifting apart.
