In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Here we are another place and time
We moved up but not enough to satisfy
What can we do we did all we could for you
Now it's our turn
Underground undiscovered sound
Show me the way out, whoa
Rejection letters in the mail
I tore them all up
Miles behind yet still chasing the dream
Hoping luck will soon come to my aid
(still hoping luck will find me)
Chasing the dream yet still so far away
So far away, still stuck in the maze
No more pretending in the mirror
No more wishes of being like you
I'll be myself and maybe I'll make it there on my own
Underground undiscovered sound
Show me the way out, whoa
Rejection letters in the mail
I tore them all up
Miles behind yet still chasing the dream
Hoping luck will soon come to my aid
(still hoping luck will find me)
Chasing the dream yet still so far away
So far away, still stuck in the maze
I need this now more than ever
(can't grasp whats far too out of reach)
I need this now so bad
(don't stop until it's within reach)
We moved up but not enough to satisfy
What can we do we did all we could for you
Now it's our turn
Underground undiscovered sound
Show me the way out, whoa
Rejection letters in the mail
I tore them all up
Miles behind yet still chasing the dream
Hoping luck will soon come to my aid
(still hoping luck will find me)
Chasing the dream yet still so far away
So far away, still stuck in the maze
No more pretending in the mirror
No more wishes of being like you
I'll be myself and maybe I'll make it there on my own
Underground undiscovered sound
Show me the way out, whoa
Rejection letters in the mail
I tore them all up
Miles behind yet still chasing the dream
Hoping luck will soon come to my aid
(still hoping luck will find me)
Chasing the dream yet still so far away
So far away, still stuck in the maze
I need this now more than ever
(can't grasp whats far too out of reach)
I need this now so bad
(don't stop until it's within reach)
