In fields where nothing grew but weeds
I found a flower at my feet
Bending there in my direction

I wrapped a hand around its stem
And pulled until the roots gave in
Finding there what I've been missing
And I know

So I tell myself, tell myself, it's wrong
There's a point we pass
From which we can't return
I felt the cold rain of the coming storm

All because of you, I haven't slept in so long
When I do I dream of drowning in the ocean
Longing for the shore, where I can lay my head down
I'll follow your voice, all you have to do is shout it out

Inside my hands these petals browned
Dried up fallen to the ground
But it was already too late now

I pushed my fingers through the earth
Returned this flower to the dirt
So it could live, I walked away now but I know

Not a day goes by when I don't feel this burn
There's a point we pass
From which we can't return
I felt the cold rain of the coming storm

All because of you I haven't slept in so long
When I do I dream of drowning in the ocean
Longing for the shore where I can lay my head down
I'll follow your voice, all you have to do is shout it out

All because of you
All because of you

All because of you I haven't slept in so long
When I do I dream of drowning in the ocean
Longing for the shore where I can lay my head down
Inside these arms of yours

All because of you I believe in angels
Not the kind with wings no, not the kind with halos
The kind that bring you home
When home becomes a strange place
I'll follow your voice, all you have to do is shout it out

in a world of hideous, horrible people, there was girl who understood him. He eagerly embraced it "Finding now what [he's] been missing". Because the world was so damn nasty, he's become so used to this day to day crap. Loving is off-limits here, becuase that's just painful stuff to bear. He's thinking 'this is wrong, becuase I'll get hurt'. Feeling the cold rain of the coming storm is like the precursor to some wild and crazy emotions: cold rain feels nice, but, there's also a storm.

So, becuase of this chick, he's always thinking of her, and his dreams consist of how her met her: drowning in the stupid world and really wants a kitkat break. So when he hears her voice, all the bad things go away because that mean's she is close and can save him.

But becuase he's so used to this mean-hearted world, he doesn't know how to act- as much as her love heals him, he see that she is being hurt by his complany. So he lefts her live in the ground. It's better there.

    Oh, but he misses her...

Believing in angels pretty much sums it up for this sorry SOB- she saved him from a hideous world he didn't belong in. He recognizes that he's got this problem where he happeneds to hurt her just by being messed up from this world, but if she ever wants/is ready to comeback, he'll be happier than a clam.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
