"The Fool On The Hill" as written by John Lennon and Paul Mccartney....
Day after day alone on the hill
The man with the foolish grin
Is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him
They can see that he's just a fool
And he never seem to notice

But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning round

Well on the way, his head in a cloud
The man of a thousand voices
Is talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him
Or the sound he appears to make
And he never seems to notice

But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning round

Oh, round, round, round, round, round
And nobody seems to like him
They can tell what he wants to do
And he never shows his feelings

But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning round

Oh, round, round, round, round, round
And he never listen to them
He knows that they're the fools
But they don't like him

The fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning round

Oh, round, round, round, round, round
Oh

General CommentIt isn't Jesus, it isn't MLK.

"Day after day, alone on a hill,
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see he’s just a fool
And he never gives an answer."

No one wants to be accociated with this strange fool, with his silly ideas. I'm not sure what 'he never gives an answer' means.

"But the fool on the hill sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head see the world spinning round."

This shows his intelligence. He sees the sun going down, but the eyes in his head (his mind's eye) sees the world spinning 'round. The sun does not, in fact 'go down' but it appears to. In reality, the world is turning us away from the sun.

"Well on the way, head in a cloud,
The man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud.
    But nobody ever hears him
Or the sound he appears to make
And he never seems to notice."

His head is in the clouds, dealing with things far above the rest, well on the way to an epiphany of some sort. 'A man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud' means he has many things to say, and he expresses them all. Nobody really hears what he is saying, even if they listen. He doesn't really notice that nobody understands him, because it is so very clear to him. How could it not be so obvious to everyone else.

"And nobody seems to like him,
They can tell what he wants to do
And he never shows his feelings."

Nobody really likes him. He doesn't do anything fun. He just sits on the hill and watches the sun. And thinks. He never shows his feelings, because really, who would care? To them, he is just the fool on the hill.

    "He never listens to them,
He knows that they’re the fools"

He doesn't care what they say about him. He knows that they are just fools. They just don't understand him.

I often feel like the fool on the hill.

General CommentThe fool on the hill is a really inteligent person who does not care for what other people think about him, but it does not make him angry, he simply thinks ( and more than "think", he KNOWS the other people are the fools, who dont understand him. By being on a hill, it means that he is in a position where he can see the things better position to see things like they really are, with no barriers in front of him. He, by simply being still, expresses a lot of things, but the other people, the real fools, dont understand him. He is also a person who does what he thinks is right, not what the others do, he does not copy other actios, he does his own actions.
When i first heard this song I felt strange, I thought of it like it was taking about me. I want to live in an island half a mile from the coast, and have a canoe to come and go, because in that island, there is no one who can bother me, i dont have to pay taxes, there is no pollution. There i can see the sun go down. My biology teacher always supports me and tells the other people in my class " When he will be resting in the sand, and you will be going to pay your taxes, you will know that the fool was not him.

General CommentI have often wondered if Paul McCartney had first seen the Movie "Ryan's Daughter" staring Robert Mitchum, Trevor Howard and Sarah Miles, also released in 1970. Fool on the Hill seems to describe perfectly the character Michael from that movie, played brilliantly by John Mills. A few months after seeing that movie, I heard Fool on the Hill for the very first time and immediately thought of John Mills portrayal of Michael from Ryan's Daughter. The lyrics describe the character perfectly.
