"This Calling" as written by and Philip La Bonte Jeanne Sagan....
I secretly crave, crave that scent again
Still feel it pressing on me now
Now with the onset, my flesh is weakening
I steel my nerves for temptations at hand again

And I hear this calling still you don't seem so far at all
And I hear this calling out

No secrets deception for these would tear this down
I'll note the past spare the pain
Words match my deeds with brutal honesty
Never forget these choices were made by me

And I hear this calling still you don't seem so far at all
And I hear this calling out

Not falling victim to the fire that burns inside of me
Though I am fearful I can not prevent this tragedy
My strengths been tested I wear the scars that prove
Still I believe that this calling will see me through

And I hear this calling still you don't seem so far at all
And I hear this calling out

My strengths been tested I wear the scars that prove
Still I believe that this calling will see me through.

General Commenti think this song is about some chick that he had to let go off but still wants, and know he'll be stronger he doesnt give in, hence the ' strengths tested' bit.

General Commenti think this song could have to do with the death of someone he knew. it seems to fit with the whole calling thing

General CommentAt first I thought he was addicted to someone in the past like an old ex-girlfriend. But after listening to the song a few times I realized it was more towards a drug addiction.

I secretly crave, crave that scent again

and now it's like he feels guilty that part of him still wants the drugs, cuz he thought he was done with it. but the fact that he still wants it makes him realize he needs to stay away from it. which is why he says
Still I believe that this calling will see me through.

Still feel it pressing on me now
(He's talking about the needles that he used)
Now with the onset my flesh is weakening
(Every part of him is loosing strength)
I steal my nerves for temptaions at hand again.
(But instead of giving in he fights off the cravings)

    I like the second verse

No secrets, deception, for these would tear this down.

He's not lying to himself cuz it only makes things worse.

I'll note the past, spare the pain.

He's not gunna make the same mistake twice.

Words match my deeds with brutal honesty.

He's saying that what he has just said is the truth, even though part of him doesn't want to believe it.

Never forget these choices were made by me

He's not forgetting what he's done or the decision he made, and he's sticking to it.

Not falling victim to the fire that burns inside of me.
(He's saying again that he's not letting the addiction control him.)

Though I am fearful I cannot prevent this tragedy
(He's doubting he can hold it off any longer)

My strength's been tested, I wear the scars that prove.
(He's will to fight it off has been tested in the past before, and the scars that prove line could mean one of two things. He could mean that he became a cutter to try and stop his addiction, or it's the scars that are left behind from herion or something.)

Still I believe that this calling will see me through.
(I think the "this calling" part means he's a born again christian and that he's found a way out through god or something.

So I think it could either be about a girl, but it fits better with like a drug addiction coming back to him
