"Charlie" as written by and Chad G Smith Michael Peter Balzary....
All aboard, stitch in time
Get yours, got mine
In a minute, I'll be there
Sit tight, get square
You could do it at the hippodrome
Slide back, trombone
Anybody got a TV at home
That's right, unknown

When I pick up on that smell
Pick it up and run like hell
Little woman save me some
Better get up on your run

So much more than
Charlie's wakin' me
To my core and
Charlie's shakin' me
And tell my story
And Charlie's makin' me
And Charlie's makin' me smile
Oh oh now

Everybody, do the twist
Get the message, on Flea's fist
Move around like a scientist
Lay down, get kissed
Big picture and it never lies
Big daddy, will advise
Ever ready, in disguise
Sunset, sunrise

When I pick up on that smell
Pick it up and run like hell
Little woman save me some
Better get up on your run

So much more than
Charlie's wakin' me
To my core and
Charlie's shakin' me
And tell my story
And Charlie's makin' me
And Charlie's makin' me smile
Oh oh now

My heart, your skin
This love, I'm in
We don't arrive without a surprise
You're right, I'm wrong
Be free, belong
Intimate sight has come in to light

When I pick up on that smell
Pick it up and run like hell
Little woman save me some
Better get up on your run

All I ever wanted to
Was pick it up and run with you
Slip into a summer spell
Double up and run like hell

So much more than
Charlie's wakin' me
To my core and
Charlie's shakin' me
And tell my story
And Charlie's makin' me
And Charlie's makin' me smile
Oh oh now

My heart, your skin
This love, I'm in
We don't arrive without a surprise
You're right, I'm wrong
Be free, belong
Intimate sight has come in to light

My heart, your skin
This love, I'm in
We don't arrive without a surprise
You're right, I'm wrong
Be free, belong
Intimate sight has come in to light

General CommentMy first post is going to be the bitchiest thing ever, but I've been an RHCP fan my whole life and to see them dissed like this makes me sick.

I don't see the drug reference at all. I was going to mock the people who said it was by pointing out the "Charlie" is also a slang for the Vietcong, but then someone was serious about it and I nearly died.

If you read anything that Anthony has said about "Stadium Arcadium," he says that the reason why they got 28 songs out (well, more, actually) is because they were all in love at the time and things just flowed.

It's MUCH more likely to be about imagination and love ("get the message on Flea's fist") rather than drugs.

    General CommentFrom Anothony:

    Lyrically:
Charlie is your imagination - that little sparkle that you get when you think of something.

    But, he says:
It can be anything for you - your girlfriend, your family, your favorite bicycle..whatever you want it to be.

General CommentI don't think this song is about kiedis's enjoyment of drugs since he's been clean for several years. Either way though, I think this is probably my favorite song off the new album.

General CommentI VERY much doubt Anthony is having a relapse and he's hinting that in his lyrics (like someone said). Even if he did that before (in One Hot Minute actually), it doesn't mean he's doing it again. Back then he would refuse to explain the meaning of the songs, claiming that he hated doing that (but since the songs were about his drug habbit, he most likely just didn't want to talk about it). Now he happily explains what a song is about, and he does it in a very convincing way. Ok that being said, I, in no way, think this song is about drugs. And yes, Anthony has written songs that deal with drug issues before, but to say he has written songs merely about drugs is somewhat shallow. He has written about his dark side, the anxiety he felt as a drug addict, and the consequences of being one, among other things.

And finally, my opinion of what this song is about. Well, to me it's about your friends insparing you and making you happy.

General CommentAnthony has specifically said that thsi song is nothing to do with any drugs of any kind, although he also says that the guy who types up his lyrics thought it was about drugs and raised an eyebrow. Anthony assured him that he hasn't been on a cocaine binge. The interview that says this is either in Kerrang or Q magazine. I can't remember which one.
