"Blue Veins" as written by and Jack White Brendan Benson....
When I was surrounded by the world
You were the only one who came
And you were the only one astounded
Which kept me grounded
As the other girls thrashed my very name

Then I looked over
Just in time to see her smiling back at me
And saying everything's OK
As long as you're inside my blue veins
Your blue veins

Yeah and the feeling that you gave me
No matter what I do or where I go
It always will remain
And those who would enslave me to get to me must get past you and will have no luck
'Cause you'll protect me from all pain

The most beautiful, yeah the most beautiful thing cause anything else can't compare
Must be the blood that's running through your blue veins
Your blue veins

[Strange part in reverse]

Your blue veins

And I know you won't deceive me
Like the rest and there's nothing you need to explain
You always were the first one to believe me
When I said to you girl
I think it's gonna rain
But I could be wrong

Yeah but all of these things
All these things
They're all truly nice but ain't nothing
Ain't nothing compared to the love that's running through your little blue veins

Your blue veins

General CommentGreat straight up blues song. Jack White is one of the last rock stars.

General CommentDosent this song remind you of an early Robert Plant? I played this for my stepdad (who is a huge Zeppelin fan) and he thought that it was an early Plant album... It is an awesome song. I play this song in my band all the time, the bass line is absolutley awesome, yet simple.

General CommentThis might be right off the mark (and knowing me it probably is) but sometimes I wonder if it might be about Jack's little girl, Scarlett. For example:

Yeah and the feeling that you gave me
No matter what I do or where I go <---- As in maybe the unconditional love a father will always get from his daughter
    It always will remain

The most beautiful, yeah the most beautiful thing cause anything else can't compare
Must be the blood that's running through your blue veins <---- Perhaps knowing that no matter what she will always belong to him because her blood is essentially his blood

I'm not sure, a lot of meanings would fit. But its a killer song that I could listen to forever.

General Commenti LOVE this song. It's one of whites best songs ever!

I think that the raconteurs has been good in this song. the text is perfect. it makes sense in every way. should it be a love song? should it be about drugs? or if it was about his little daughter? there are several ways to see the point!
I think i would choose to see it as though it were his daughter, because she is his own flesh and blood(all these thing, they are truly nice, they aint nothing.. aint nothing compared to the blood there's running through your 'little' blue veins), and she may means everything for him. genius if the song had been written for her?? :)the ra

General CommentThis song is about his wife Karen Elson. They met during the filming of the blue orchid video, a time period in which Jack was suffering a lot of alienation from the world. He didn't want to succumb into the cliche ways of a rock star, aching to stay true to his working class origins. In live versions of this song, you can hear jack modifying the lyrics from the first chorus to "then, i looked over, just in time, to see her little redhead smiling back at me and saying everything's OK".His wife Karen has strikingly wonderful red hair, they fell in love so quickly, that they got married 3 weeks into knowing each other in an amazonian jungle. I don't know and I don't care if Jack is into drugs, but I can tell that this is obviously a love song, the most heartfelt he's probably written in his life.

General Commentyeah love this song - strange, i like the way it doesnt really hsave a tune in some parts, more like him just saying the lyrics. its really affective it think. my does the music sound so familiar - i swear its like another song - i just cant put my finger on it - the piano/keyboard in perticular...
