"I Can't Put My Finger On It" as written by and Michael Melchiondo....
Is it alive, does it writhe
Can it survive under the sun?
I can't put my finger on it
Is it green, is it red

Is it alive or is it dead
I can't put my finger on it
Scathe with a lathe
All the days in the past

I can't put my finger on it
Is it brown, is it white
Is it really outta sight
I can't put my finger on it

Can it squeal, does it squirm
If it's fresh will it burn?
I can't put my finger on it
Can it fly, will it try

If the wings are still wet?
I can't put my finger on it
Can it heal, is it real
Can it feel the threads of time?

I can't put my finger on it
Does it glow, will it shine
Does it leave a trail of slime
I can't put my finger on it

[Repeat: x3]
Are you surprised when I touch the dwarf inside?

Lyrics sounding perverse or profound are often just about their favorite munchies. The lyrics, "Is it alive, does it writhe/ can it survive under the sun?/ scathe with a lathe/ all the days in the past /I can't put my finger on it," is about Gene's confusion over a Gyro.

General CommentI tend to believe the above quote is accurate. Just look at the place setting for the music video.

General CommentAn epic song about one man's attempt to define that which escapes definition. We never really find out what 'it' is, but rest assured: it's either red, green, brown, or white. And really, wouldn't knowing take the fun out of it?

General CommentSpeaking of epic, I highly recommend the version of the song on their 'Paintin' The Town Brown: Ween Live, '90 - '98' album.

General Commentthe live version is epic, indeed. These guys are so talanted they can turn it into a 9 minute Arabian chant.

General CommentI always considered this an autobiographical song describing the band Ween itself. Since they jump around genres so much, there is no real way to classify them.

The live version is amazing, every version I've heard.

General CommentThe "it" refers to his lover's clitoris.

General CommentInteresting that various of you have described the song as 'epic' - all the references to 'it' in the song remind me of Faith No More's Epic. What is it? It's it.

General CommentThe melody is filched wholesale from "Is She Weird" by Pixies. God bless the Ween!

General CommentGorillagorilla got it right in one! I'm glad I'm not the onyl one who'd considered that as the answer ... now, is that the same "it" that Mike Patton sings of???
