"Night of Nights" as written by and Edward Joel Kowalczyk....
Tonight, the road has no end
And you are my only friend

Oh, so I give you my love
It's all that I have to give
Oh, I give you my love
I give you my love

Tonight, the answer is clear
We are so far and so near

Oh, so I give you my love
It's all that I have to give
Oh, I give you my love
And the life I have left to live

Oh, I give you my love
It's all that I have to give
Oh, I give you my love
I give you my love
I give you my love

Like a diamond, she never stops shinin'
She's always alive, and she's walking with me

Tonight, we stand as one heart
One mind, nothing left behind

Oh, so I give you my love
It's all that I have to give
Oh, I give you my love
And the life I have left to live

Oh, I give you my love
Yeah, I give it
Oh, yeah, I give you my love
I give you my love
I give you my love

General CommentThis song seems like it's about nothing more than a simple man giving his love to a girl because it's all he has to give. Ed must be trying this new method of writing lyrics that make some smidgeon of sense. Not a bad idea really when we get songs like this. Only problem though is this song's ridiculous time change that comes in the chorus, other than that it's a little too short, but still, Live can do almost no wrong.

General CommentI disagree. It's more than a love song. It's deeper than that. Throughout the new album, Ed uses the female to make analogies. He even said so in one of their podcasts. When he says that he gives "her" his love, he is (I believe) offering the world a solution: love.

"Tonight, the answer is clear; we are so far and so near"

He believes (like Bono) that mankind has finally gotten to a point where we can solve all of the worlds problems and show some love. I've caught this theme throughout the album AND I've noticed that Ed has sewn this theme throughout songs in the past as well. Ed wants to see change. He wants to see world peace. He wants to see the world united as brothers.

General CommentYeah, Eyecon's got the idea. Ed says that he intentially gives the songs dual meaning. That's great writing for ya. This song is amazing though - it's sad that few people will ever hear it...like a lot of other songs on this cd...
