This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
What's up?
I know we haven't spoken for a while
But I was thinkin' 'bout you
And it kinda made me smile
So many things to say
And I'll put 'em in a letter
Thought it might be easier
The words might come out better
How's your mother, how's your little brother?
Does he still look just like you?
So many things I wanna know the answers to
Wish I could press rewind
And rewrite every line
To the story of me and you
Don't you know I've tried and I've tried
To get you out my mind
But it don't get no better
As each day goes by
And I'm lost and confused
I've got nothin' to lose
Hope to hear from you soon
P.S. I'm still not over you
(Still not over you) you yeah
Excuse me, I really didn't mean to ramble on
But there's a lot of feelings that remain since you've been gone
I guess you thought that I would put it all behind me
But it seems there's always somethin' right there to remind me
Like a silly joke, or somethin' on the TV
Boy it ain't easy
When I hear our song
I get that same ol' feeling
Wish I could press rewind
Turn back the hands of time
And I shouldn't be telling you
Don't you know I've tried and I've tried
To get you out my mind
But it don't get no better
As each day goes by
And I'm lost and confused
I've got nothin' to lose
Hope to hear from you soon
P.S. I'm still not over you
(Still not over you)
Did you know I kept all of your pictures
Don't have the strength to part with them yet
Oh no
Tried to erase the way your kisses taste
But some things a girl can never forget
Don't you know I've tried and I've tried
To get you out my mind
But it don't get no better
As each day goes by
And I'm lost and confused
I've got nothin' to lose
Hope to hear from you soon
P.S. I'm still not over you
Still not over you
How I tried to forget you
Don't you know I've tried and I've tried
To get you out my mind
But it don't get no better (don't get no better)
As each day goes by (each day goes by)
And I'm lost and confused

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
I Love This Song. It's easy to relate too. Well for me atleast. Hah. But this song is really self explanitory.
Ya, completely self-explanatory...love it though. Reminds me so much of a past bf...lol, his lil bro did even look like him! It actually helped me cry those last tears and get over him. I had so many feelings inside, yet I didn't know what words to put to them. This song put them in perfect English. So ya, thats what the song meant to me...Ri rocks.
This song is way too cute, I LOVE IT!!! It speaks for it's self...but it's also about that last attempt to get the person back by bringing up old memories. I love the way it's sung in the style of a letter. "Like a silly joke or something on the tv" I love that because it's so true, it's about the small things that bring us back to where we started...not the big picture...
this makes me think of a special boy. we were in a relationship for 7 months but the whole time, he was lying to me. it was really complicated. :/
but we still talk all the time [even though i have a new boyfriend] i still love him.. but he doesn't know that. we never used the three big words because he is leaving for college in the fall.
but this totally explains my situation and every time i hear this song, i cry. its simple as that.
i think it means this ex couple hasent spaken for a while and then the gril writes him a letter...........confessing her love

oh my god...
='[
my situation atm..
It means so much to me... This is exactly how I feel about my ex and me, it's been a little while since we've talked but my feelings haven't changed for him one bit. I hear it and just remember all the quirky little things that he used to do that made me laugh, or our song on the radio... I wish he could be back with me...
=[ so truee
I think this song is about those great relationships that you have that end peacefully, but every now and then you think to yourself that you wish you could have done things differently because everyone that you date doesn't compare to that great love you once had. She is basically saying that even though she ended things everything she felt for him still remains and she wishes she could change things. When she ses i shouldn't be telling you i think she is saying that because the guys is now in a relationship but she still hasn't let go, so deep down she is hoping that he still feels the same. I especially love the bit 'i've tried to erase the way your kisses taste, but some things are girl can never forget'.
