"A Song for You" as written by and Leon Russell....
I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung a lot of songs
I've made some mad rhymes
I've acted out my life in stages
With ten thousand people watching
But we're alone now and I'm singing this song to you

I know your image of me is what I hoped to be
I treated you unkindly
And darling can't you see
There's no one more important to me
Baby can't you see through me
'Cause we we're alone now and I'm singing this song to you

You taught me precious secrets
Of a true love, you wanted nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
Now I'm so much better
And if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody
'Cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for my life
Your a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We we're alone and I was singing this song to you

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for my life
Your a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We we're alone and I was singing this song to you
We we're alone and I was singing this song to you

General CommentI could write a ton of comments on this song. My favorite lines

1.) I know your image of me is what I hope to be (a showing of compromise is a loving relationship)

2.) But now I'm so much better, and If my words don't come together, listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding (this gives away that Donny wrote this song for a woman the he loved... telling her that this song is truly how he feels)....

Anyone have more comments, this is truly a groundbreaking rnb track.

My InterpretationOne of the best songs ever written, in my opinion. The piano trickling at the beginning followed by Hathaway's incredible voice. And then the lyrics... they come across as really personal, intimate and sincere.
May favourite lines: "And when my life is over
    Remember when we were together
We we're alone and I was singing this song to you"
This is perfect as a wedding song.

My Opinion#This song timeless# "...We we're alone and I was singing this song to you...We we're alone and I was singing this song to you,Weeee..we're alone and I was singing this song *Mmmmmh*"...#There's only 1 male artist in our time, that can do a cover of Donny's songs and still do sweet justice to them. That has to be Frank McComb,i wouldnt execpt it any how.Good/Real music still lives on

General CommentDonny didn't write the song...Leon Russel did. For me, that makes the performance even more amazing. He has a connection with this song that seems so strong, yet he didn't actually write the song...the mark of a great performer.

One of the few things I'm thankful towards American Idol is the resurgence of this song- quite a few contestants have performed it.

My InterpretationI chose to play this song when my dog was laid to rest peacefully in front of my garden. I held his paw while it played in the background. Our love was unconditional.

I love you for my life, Your a friend of mine
And when my life is over
    Remember when we were together
We we're alone and I was singing this song to you"
