"Here Comes The Night" as written by and Nick/mc Culloch Gilder....
Whoa, here it comes
Here comes the night
Here comes the night
Whoa whoa whoa yeah

I could see right out my window
Walkin' down the street, my girl
With another guy

His arm around her
Like it used to be with me
Whoa, it makes me want to die
Yeah yeah yeah

Well, here it comes
Here comes the night
Here comes the night
Whoa whoa whoa whoa yeah

There they go
It's funny how they look so good together
Wonder what is wrong with me
Why can't I, accept the fact she's chosen him
And simply let them be
Whoa whoa whoa

Well, here it comes
Here comes the night
Here comes the night
Whoa whoa whoa yeah

She's with him he's turning down the lights
And now he's holding her
The way I used to do

I could see, her closing her eyes
And tellin' him lies
Exactly like she told me, too
Yeah yeah yeah

Well, here it comes
Here comes the night
The long, the long and lonely night
Night, night, night, night, night, night

Whoa, here comes the night

General CommentWHAT?! I always think it's kind of stupid when people comment just to ask why no one else has done so yet... but PLEASE! This is one of my favorite songs ever, and when I saw that no one's commented on it yet, well... it hurts. It literally hurt me deep inside. Ow.

General CommentWonderful singing - apparently the Here Comes The Night chorus took about 40 takes but Van hits it like no one else.
    Very primitive but effective backing.

General CommentJust a fantastic rock song from Waaay back in the day.

It's worth noting that the guitar on this classic is by one of London's favorite studio players of that time, a kid named Jimmy Page. His hook really makes the song.
Of course Van Morrison can infuse even the most ordinary lyrics with meaning and emotion. These aren't really deep but you have to like the fact that while our hero pines for his girl and is clearly in a bad way watching her with "another guy" he is still clearheaded enough to realize that the sweet nothings she is whispering are just lies "exactly like she told me too".

Or at least he wants them to be lies :)
