"Estonia" as written by and Mark/rothery Kelly....
Feeling you shake
Feel your heart break
Thinking if only, if only, if only, if only
And the salt water runs
Through your veins and your bones
Telling you no not this way, not this way, not this way

And you would give anything
Give up everything
Offer your life blood away
For yesterday

No one leaves you
When you live in their heart and mind
And no one dies
They just move to the other side
When we're gone
Watch the world simply carry on
We live on laughing and in no pain
We'll stay and be happy
With those who have loved us today

Finding the answer
It's a human obsession
But you might as well talk to the stones and the trees and the sea
'Cause nobody knows
And so few can see
There's only beauty and caring and truth beyond darkness

No one leaves you
When you live in their heart and mind
And no one dies
They just move to the other side
When we're gone
Watch the world simply carry on
We live on laughing and in no pain
We'll stay and be happy
With those who have loved us today

And we won't understand your grief
Because time is illusion
As this watery world spins around
This timeless sun
Will dry your eyes
And calm your mind

No one leaves you
When you live in their heart and mind
And no one dies
They just move to the other side
When we're gone
Watch the world simply carry on
It's okay, we will stay and be happy
Stay and be happy
With those who have loved us today

General CommentThis one was written after vocalist Steve Hogarth met the only British survivor from the accident where the passenger ferry Estonia sank in the Baltic Sea in September 1994, killing 852 people. The best song "This Strange Engine" next to the epit title track. It has an amazing athmosphere and a very catchy chorus. Amazing piece that puts new modern Rock bands like Coldplay and Keane to shame!!!!

General CommentHow can there be only one comment here?I completely agree that this is the second best song, after the title track, in "This Strange Engine".

The lyrics are pretty much self-explanatory.It's a song about loss, about those who leave us,those who stay behind, those who try to cope with everyone we lose over the years.Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't.("you never get over it, you get used to it" as H. so eloquently put in "Brave"'s "Living with the Big Lie".)Actually for me, the song, works both ways.On a good day, i agree we get over our losses, and then again, on a bad day i " would give anything, Give up everything,Offer (my) life blood away,For yesterday"
Even though my yesterday is 18 years back...

Song MeaningIndeed, definitely one of my favourites...

It rings an extra bell to me: when you loose someone, you try to hang on "for those who love us today".... you end up putting on a brave face for others too.
