Words fail her
Why bother trying to pass off your Offense as a good defense? I said,
"Please don't treat me like a lawyer sweetie. . . .
'Cause there will be time for shouting matches."

So he writes - last option.
Keeps him cornered in.
The need for more stays pressing,
But he can't force the pen.
For every blot of ink a word is lost. . .
Pierced skin/new melody
And if these lines stay blank. . .
They'll lead to no where.

She starves for attention.
He has hungry mouths to feed.
Dietary habits seen [to her]
As born of apathy.
He starves for attention.
She has hungry mouths to feed.
Emaciated, both will dream
Of times they felt less empty.

Under his breath:
"Like guests and presidents,
My words were not welcome where they could not stay."
Their arguments plotted concentric circles
Ending up bulls-eyes over his ribcage.

She starves for attention.
He has hungry mouths to feed.
Dietary habits seen [to her]
As born of apathy.
He starves for attention.
She has hungry mouths to feed.
Emaciated, both will dream
Of times they felt less empty.

I need to believe in these dripping Organs sutured to my sleeves.
I want to scream with every dream [out loud]
You'd never dare to breath.
Two-four, two-four.
I can't breathe.
Two-four, two-four.
(I can't breathe.)

She starves for attention.
He has hungry mouths to feed.
Dietary habits seen [to her]
As born of apathy.
He starves for attention.
She has hungry mouths to feed.
Emaciated, both will dream
Of times they felt less empty.

General CommentI think this is about two people who are in a relationship and they are rather miserable. They both need attention and something which they are not getting from one another and just take cheap shots at each other. Both feel unfillfilled and as though the other doesn't care. With each "dream" (times that are better, hopes of change, fleeting moments of contentment, etc) they want to scream but neither dare to "breath" and do what needs to be done. Instead it continues in a vicious cycle. They stay together in a bad relationship and she stays his muse and he her tragic lover.

General CommentI think this song is about going through a bad divorce... the goes Why bother trying to pass off your Offense as a good defense? and his wife/ soon to be ex wife goes Please don't treat me like a lawyer sweetie. . . .Cause there will be time for shouting matches... They are both bitter and they soon going to court, maybe for belongings... He writes what he wants but "could not force the pen" and so he is left with nothing... he trys to stand his own in court but Like guests and presidents,
his words were not welcome where they could not stay... and she gets everything... Ending up bulls-eyes over his ribcage. She took everything from him, his heart, his voice(why he cant scream/stand up for himself). He loved her
