"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I most certainly agree with you sophieclark..this is an awesome song and for a nickelodeon show it is very cool. I think it is really true...kinda like this guy has said to her "oh i love you" then gone and taken it back and shes like "well uh nah u cant get rid of me so easily...i gave you everything and you stuffed me around...". i feel like this is about a guy who thinks he's "all that" and plays games - he's kind of like a jerk - and she doesn't want to like him, but she's completely smitten by him. "you can't get rid of me", she probably wishes she could get rid of him though, i know i do.
i think the topic is simple... this guy hooked up with her once and made her think he liked her and then he simply dissapeared and made it seem as if anything happened between them..this freaked her out thats why shes saying hes got issues an he is a freak....as shes keeping a lot of pain from that in her inside she is saying that she will always kinda "haunt him in his thoughts' because of destiny or wtv...(what goes around comes around) and that even though he always denied liking her he really did and always will...and thats sort of her revenge "send you home to cry.."

Alexz Johnson is my favourite singer! the best bit of this song is the "ha ha ha ha ha" it sounds so good!! To me this song is about Alexz and this boy being in love, then he falls out of love, but she will always love him and be with him throguh everything.
