"Shut Your Eyes" as written by Gary Lightbody, Nathan Connolly, Jonathan Graham Quinn, Tom Simpson and Paul Wilson....
Shut your eyes and think of somewhere
Somewhere cold and caked in snow
By the fire we break the quiet
Learn to wear each other well

And when the worrying starts to hurt
And the world feels like graves of dirt
Just close your eyes until
You can imagine this place
Yeah, our secret space, at will

Shut your eyes, I spin the big chair
And you'll feel dizzy, light, and free
And falling gently on the cushion
You can come and sing to me

And when the worrying starts to hurt
And the world feels like graves of dirt
Just close your eyes until
You can imagine this place
Yeah, our secret space, at will

(Shut your eyes)
(Shut your eyes)
(Shut your eyes)
(Shut your eyes)

Shut your eyes and sing to me (shut your eyes and sing to me)
Shut your eyes and sing to me (shut your eyes and sing to me)
Shut your eyes and sing to me (shut your eyes and sing to me)
Shut your eyes and sing to me (shut your eyes and sing to me)
Shut your eyes and sing to me (shut your eyes and sing to me)

General CommentThis new album is such an amazing accomplishment I don't even know where to start commenting. I've chosen this song because it seems like one of the two tracks that set up the metaphor which underlies the album's crux:

I'm not entirely sure, but at first listen "Shut Your Eyes" appears to mean "selective blindness", or not acknowledging the things that are ugly about this world (or perhaps the person you are dating).

It stands in direct opposition to "Open Your Eyes", which is acknowledgement of existing flaws, and rising to challenge them together.

So the progression from "Shut" to "Open" marks the journey of two people together moving from a superficial relationship to one of deeper commitment. It includes highs and lows, love and hate, bitter coldness, raging fires, minds racing, dark places...

...I'm such a sucker for theme albums.

General Commentso maybe it's about act of making love with someone...when you're depressed
"And when the worrying starts to hurt
and the world feels like graves of dirt"
it's the best way to forget about everything...

"By the fire we break the quiet
Learn to wear each other well"
the fire could means a love and a desire...a fire between boy and a girl which you feel... just like you hearing it inside of you..
and learn each other well is like the boy fit perfectly girl and girl fit perfectly boy...like wearing each other in time having a sex

    "Just close your eyes until
you can imagine this place, you're our secret space as well"
this safe place is girls vagina...boy is inside girl protecting her from all the world and giving her pleasure and love...and girl protects boy hiding him inside of her;) they are one body...secret place..

"Shut your eyes, I spin the big chair
You'll feel dizzy, light, and free"
it's a methaphor of pleasure, orgasm..he makes she feels safe, free, happy...
"And falling gently on the cushion"
it's about come back to reality after time of pleasure..
then she should shut her eyes and sing to him just this what he sings to her;]

oh..it's so so so so beautiful song i love it;)

(oh, and now i'm learning english...so it might be that i haven't understood it in correctly way..;]
oh and sorry for grammatical mistakes..)

General CommentI think it's rather simple - two on holiday. But only a holiday that's rubbish - like really cheap and scuzzy. And as is obvious, they end up making love. But have to imagine it somewhere much much nicer - maybe it's their first time ?

General Commenti thought of this song when i was watching the simpsons yesterday... it was when homer and mr burns were stuck in the snow cabin... although they didn't exactly start making out or anything.

General CommentMaybe it's a song about needing someone, instead of just loving them. I don't know. . . I think I need to listen to this a little more (oh darn!)
