Sleeping his only escape from it all
When he's dreaming, he gets a chance to escape from the world and leave it behind

He doesn't know what is real, but he knows he'd rather not deal.
He doesn't know what is real,
but he knows he'd rather not deal
He doesn't wnat to wake up to the world

Running she wants to run across the grass
Instead she's lying on a hospital bed, hooked up to gas and tubes and lights
She doesn't even know she's alive
Except her mother's praying by her beside
The coma has her locked into a hole

She doesn't even know what is real
except what they tell her to feel
What are you looking at?
Sometimes the things behind us help remind us of that

No they never told us
Somewhere between the conscious and the sublime
familiar faces meet for a moment displaced in time
When one of them talks he says he wants to give up,
cause his daughter has been taken across
He doesn't think he can make it on his own
When the other face tries to respond she sees the face is already gone

General CommentI guess it's about two different people, having never before met, were both on the verge of death, or coma, or whatever, and somehow meet up in another realm. And, well, the last bit i haven't fully figured out by from what I can gather, the guy kinda gives in and lets go and, well... umm... dies, to put it bluntly. Chilling thought... fascinating, though. and a friggin amazing song. and friggin amazing band. ya.

General CommentThis is by far the catchiest song ever...makemesmile seems to have it down pretty good, and props for getting the lyrics up cause they are hard as hell to understand at parts, but what does "cause his daughter has been taken across" refer to?

General CommentI think this song is about a father losing his daughter.
    He sleeps because she's dead.
And that would make the "cause his daughter has been taken across" part make sense.

And to answer, I think "cause his daughter has been taken across" means she's dead...more or less. Taken to the other side, that sort of thing.

General CommentIts a man who cant deal with losing his daughter.

the faces meeting at the end is the man seeing his daughter who has died, and When the other face tries to respond she sees the face is already gone, it's probably that the father has commited suicide before she could tell him not to.

General CommentIt's really quite simple. This song is about a man who's daughter is in hospital dying. it's hard for him to cope, and he doesn't want to deal with it, and sleep is his only escape from it all. "When he's dreaming, he gets a chance to escape from the world and leave it behind."

"Somewhere between the conscious and the sublime
familiar faces meet for a moment displaced in time
When one of them talks he says he wants to give up,
cause his daughter has been taken across" refers to his daughter being in a coma, and just being able to make out her father's face, and hears him saying they should unplug her life support because she's died. "When the other face tries to respond she sees the face is already gone" see? dead. Her father is the last thing she sees, no matter how hazy it might have been.
