"Freya" as written by and John D Cronise....
A Sword of fire and an axe of cold
Vision of the sibyl has foretold
Armies gather on the battle-plain
All will fall and earth will die in flame

Here on the battle-plain
We will die in flame

In Falcon's feathers soaring overhead
Choosing warriors among the dead
Twilight written in the runes of crones
Freya weeps upon her golden throne

Upon her golden throne
We wait for her alone
Call us unto your hall
Take us into your thrall

The battle rages, bit they fight in vain
When all is done it must begin again

General CommentIt is about Freya (Freyja), Odin's Granddaughter. She is the Goddess of love and fertility as well as oracles (sibyls). She can turn into a falcon and rides a chariot drawn by two cats. Half of the warriors slain in battle go to Odin's hall Valhalla, and half to Freyja's hall Folkvangar. "The battle rages but they fight in vain" refers to Ragnarok, the battle at teh end of the world. "When all is done it must begin again." The surviving two gods and two humans must recreate the nine worlds.

General Commentconsidering this band's lyrical style, I think this song is about valkyries and Valhalla of norse legend:

    "on falcon's feathers soaring overhead
    choosing warriors among the dead"

The valkyries flew over battlefields on winged horses, and chose the bravest fallen warriors to continue on in Valhalla.

"the battle rages, but they fight in vain
when all is done it must begin again "

The warriors in Valhalla eventually go on to fight for Odin in Ragnarök, the final battle at the end of the world. Hence, the battle begins again.

Fucking awesome song regardless; the intro is da shit. I'm buying the album as soon as I find it.
