"To Me You Are A Work Of Art" as written by and Steven Patrick/whyte Morrissey....
I live a life
I feel the pain
To sing this song
To tell the tale
I wish I never even heard the song
I see the world
It makes me puke
But then I look at you and know
That somewhere there's a someone who can soothe me

To me you are a work of art
And I would give you my heart
That's if I had one

I see the world
It makes me puke
But then I look at you and know
That somewhere there's a someone who can soothe me

To me you are a work of art
And I would give you my heart
That's if I had one, had one

To me you are a work of art
And I would give you my heart
That's if I had one

General Commenti think it's about not being able to say 'I love you' to someone who you actually do love

    General Comment.as for the title:

"What a piece of work is a man! how noble in reason! how infinite in faculty! in form and moving how express and admirable! in action how like an angel! in apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the world! the paragon of animals! And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust? man delights not me: no, nor woman neither, though by your smiling you seem to say so"
    -hamlet by shakespeare

...and more recently, in the 20th century, the phrase 'a real piece of work' has been coined. This means almost exactly the opposite of Shakespeare's meaning, i.e. 'a really bad person, lacking morality and scruples'.

General CommentAnother favorite of mine. I can somehow relate to the lyrics very well, even if I haven't figured out yet which girl in my life I am relating it to :D

General CommentThis song always makes me think of 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'.
The painter, Basil Hallward paints nothing and nobody but Dorian. As he tries to explain this to Lord Henry Wotton, he says, "I couldn't be happy if I didn't see him every day. He is absolutely necessary to me [...] He is all my art to me now", meaning that, since he met him, he sees the world differently and that Dorian is the greatest inspiration he has ever known.
Although Basil says that Dorian is IN his every work of art, rather than being a work of art himself, I think the situation is similar to the one portrayed in this song.
