I can't hear you, you sound like static
I can't hear you my ears have had it bad
You sound like a...

Radio with the speakers blown
treble high and the bass down low,
down low

Tonight I'm drowning in my favorite records
trying to forget how every thread
Reminds me of the nights I spent with you

They play the soundtrack to my falling tears
the soundtrack to this wasted year
and the sleeves hide scars better than I could ever do

So turn me up (so turn me up)
when you turn me on
When we hear hearts break we'll say they're playing our song

It sounds like a radio with the speakers blown
The kind of sound that you'll never know
Treble high and the bass down low
woahoh woahoh
It sounds like a radio with the speakers blown
The kind of sound that you'll never know
Treble high and the bass down low
woahoh

The record plays to the beat of my heart
and my heart you know it plays like a metronome
If the record skips a beat my heart will too

It plays the soundtrack to my falling tears
the soundtrack to this wasted year
and the sleeves hide scars better than I could ever do

So turn me up (so turn me up)
when you turn me on
When we hear hearts break we'll say they're playing our song

It sounds like a radio with the speakers blown
The kind of sound that you'll never know
Treble high and the bass down low
woahoh woahoh
Radio with the speakers blown
The kind of sound that you'll never know
Treble high and the bass down low
woahoh

So I'll play these records you've always hated
I'm feeling so sick and medicated
Aw come on, why are you so nervous boy?
My prescriptions read like ransom notes
and love letters you never wrote
Help me feel like I'm not paranoid

I can't hear you, you sound like static
I can't hear you my ears have had it bad
It sounds like a...

Radio with the speakers blown
Treble high and the bass down low,
down low

It sounds like a radio with the speakers blown
The kind of sound that you'll never know
Treble high and the bass down low
woahoh woahoh

Radio with the speakers blown
The kind of sound that you'll never know
Treble high and the bass down low
woahoh
Treble high and the bass down low

General CommentI think the "My prescriptions read like ransom notes" bit means that he is in such serious depression, or nervous state seeing as it's mentioned in the above line "Why are you so nervous, boy", that he needs tons of meds, or expensive ones at least, so it appears like a ransom note due to the cost.
He's comparing it to love letters because, like doftpunk101 said, because they're fairly long. He may also be comparing them because in a love note someone may write all the reasons why they love a person. So in his prescriptions, it's kind of like all the different meds he has to use because of the girl. :)

General Commentthis song isn't really hard to get...this extended simile is soo corny...and easily one of my favorite songs off the cd...."when we hear hearts break we'll say they're playing our song"--that line is just too classic...

General Commentok, this is song MEANING.net... you put what the songs means - not that you love it or hate it. lol anyway
it's a heartbreak song.. they're feeling let down, and hurt.. the music is a way to cope with the pain.. "radio withe the speakers blown. the kind of sound you'll never know" i think refers to the love. it's over and they'll never know what could been.
    good song.
but typical about heartbreak and blahblah..
