You and me we like to talk about that summer night you came over to my house and I sat there while you
Told me everything all of your ups and downs and in betweens and I just thought to myself

How could so much good exist in such a tiny heart despite of all the pain she's in she never falls apart
And if she does it lasts the length of seven songs she dries her tears on her best friend's sleeves
And dances right along

In a dream you called me up and asked me quietly if I would like to meet you for a drink but when I got there
You just looked at me as you spoke to yourself if you take me home tonight I know that we will kiss
And one of us will fall in love and it will be a mess but if you want to take that chance then please just let me know
I slammed my glass down on the bar and said grab your coat lets go

So here we are we've come so far

And I just thought to myself and I just thought

How could so much good exist in such a tiny heart despite of all the pain she's in she never falls apart
And if she does it lasts the length of seven songs she dries her tears on her best friend's sleeves and dances right along

General CommentWHY HASN'T ANYONE COMMENTED ON THIS GREAT SONG YET?

anywayyyy. this song isn't hard to figure outtt. the person who's talking is a boy who's maybe in love with this girl he's pretty close with.
"you & me we like to talk about that summer night you came over to my house and i sat there while you
told me everything all of your ups & downs & in betweens
& i just thought to myself..."

& he's in ... perhaps love? with this girl who goes through TONS of shit. but she never ever lets that completely stop her from doing the things she wants to do; being happy, etc.
"how could so much good exist in such a tiny heart despite of all the pain she's in she never falls apart.
& if she does it lasts the length of seven songs she dries her tears on her best friend's sleeves
    & dances right along"

& he dreams that he's given the chance to take on an actual RELATIONSHIP. & they're hesitant because it might be risky, but he's definetly willing to take the chance.
"In a dream you called me up and asked me quietly if I would like to meet you for a drink but when I got there
You just looked at me as you spoke to yourself if you take me home tonight I know that we will kiss
And one of us will fall in love and it will be a mess but if you want to take that chance then please just let me know
I slammed my glass down on the bar and said grab your coat lets go"

    General Commentacousticlilly,
I'm a guy, and I am in COMPLETE agreement with you! Come on people! This is one of my favorites off the new album! I've definitely been in this situation before, and I can understand the pain the guy must be feeling that he just can't seem to make this girl as happy as she deserves to be, simply because she won't give him the chance :(.

Very emotional song. These types of dreams, btw, are prolly the best to have, until u wake up :(.

General Commenthas anyone thought that it could be about like him breaking up with her, or maybe a mutual breakup, because with the lyrics "and I just thought to myself

How could so much good exist in such a tiny heart despite of all the pain she's in she never falls apart
And if she does it lasts the length of seven songs she dries her tears on her best friend's sleeves
And dances right along" it sounds like shes hurt but shes dealing with it well, and he is just thinking how she is doing this so well. Then the second part is about her askin him out for a drink and maybe they get a little drunk and they know they will regret it but it still happens, i dont know. i agree with everyones else thoughts, but just another way to look at it

General CommentAs I often do, I'm attributing this song to my current situation.

This girl and I have both just recently met and got swept up in each other... we're both coming off of relationships, but don't want either to be a "rebound" and feel something powerful in our connection.

We are both in awe at the kindness of gentleness of each other... I don't know if it's what either of us were looking for, but are glad we found.

The "in a dream" verse kind of fits what we both are wanting and are kind of going through in reality as well. We've met a couple times this past weekend, and each of us has felt that we're just moments away from falling for each other, we're just waiting for the other to say something.

In the end, this song has an openness about it... especially the "so here we are" part. In my situation, neither of us is ready to commit fully to what we've started, and neither of us is sure that we're right to be in something long-term right now... but what we are doing and the time we spend together feels so right.
