"Beg Your Pardon" as written by and Joshua Jon Pyke....
It's funny how you can miss someone,
even when they're sitting next to you.
So I profess that loneliness is not always by company cured.
The cats are in the windows,
dogs are at the doors,
the lamps are lit and the curtains being drawn,
but you're wanting his heart,
when I'm wanting yours.

But oh no, around you I forget behaviour,
but if I begged your pardon,
might I once again be in your favour?
And i know that I'm not the one of whom,
you think at night,
but I know I,
presume to think I made you think of me right now.

And every day the drudgery that lingers when the day is done for me.
I long to feel the quickening,
that anything from you to me can bring.
Actors never stop their acting, and a singer never has a thing to say,
but you're drawn to him,
so I get drawn away.
Again.

General CommentI think this is one of Josh's most beautiful songs, althought probably not my favourite.
The lyrics of this song are really well crafted, as you really have to think to figure out what they're about, in this way they remind me of a lot of Elliott Smith lyrics.

To me the song is fairly upsetting and I believe it is about a relationship that has slipped out of Josh's hands.
"its funny how you can miss someone even when they're sitting next to you" - I think this is about missing something that he had with the same person, that he no longer has: a connection, requited love etc.. In the following line he says that even though he is still physically with this person/friend, he isn't with her emotionally/socially/relationship-wise, like he used to be, and hence he feels lonely. Its beautiful how Josh then paints a fairytale-esque picture of cozy home, and then he confesses that he knows that his partner has another man on her mind: "the one [she] thinks at night".

I think the closing stanza echoes a certain innocence within Josh as he is in a position where he can't really do anything about something he is so certain about: "a singer never has a thing to say". But I got the impression that until "actors...stop their acting" (His friend stops acting like she still loves him) he wont be able to do anything about it, or have a thing to say, because he still has the same love for her that he's always had.
---This reminds me of one of my favourite Elliott Smith songs 'Oh Well, Okay', which although so simple, is so empowered with emotion and passion: even if this is not what the song is about, elliott says "if you get a feeling next time you see me, do me a favour and let me know, cause its hard to tell, its hard to say, oh well okay" - The idea of just wanting to have a reason to let go, just say 'oh well, okay' is a feeling that I felt Josh referred to in the last verse.

Thats just my interpretation of the song, and chances are its wrong. but thats what makes so many good lyrics/poems great.
    thanks josh.

General CommentIt's having a fight with your best friend but 'still talking'. I think. I've listened to the first line a million times this week. He still talks to me, barely. He's there, but it's not what we were. I don't think he actually cares either. He doesn't think of me. But unlike in Pyke's song, he doesn't even think of me when I'm near him, at least he doesn't want to. This so is too close to home. I want to be back in his favour.

General CommentI feel this song is very much a song about remebering a special relasionship he had with someone. A first it was very special to him at the beginning but over time weaked and he or his firend has changed. this causes him to miss the person and more importantly miss the feeling of having something special.

now, he simply wishes even having the most insignifacant commications is something to cheeirsh.'I long to feel the quickening,
that anything from you to me can bring.' he almost wishes he could have this with this person again but for now he is hung up on the memory yearns for it every day.

General CommentI absolutely love this song,
But, I believe that he is singing about an infatuation he has with a girl, but he can see that she doesn't like him, and nothing will progress.
We can see that he is deeply infatuated with her by the way, "around her he forgets behaviour", and she is not into him, by the lines such as, "your wanting his heart, and i'm wanting yours", or " your drawn to him, so I get drawn away".
I will also pressume that they are friends, "it's funny how you can miss someone even when they're sitting next to you.."
and he knows how she wants another guy because that's what they discuss, he misses her already, because he knows he won't be able to win her heart.
With the line that, "So, I profess that loneliness is not always by company cured." he maybe trying to forget about her by striking up friendships, and relationships with other girls, but he just can't shake the thought of her.

General CommentThis song reflects a personal experience for myself. Just as threestars described the mood and meanigs to the words, I believe this song is reflective to your own experience. My ex-girlfriend and I listened to this song sitting next to each other the day after we had broken up. The first line sent my stomach to the floor and I knew then It wasnt over

General Commentgod josh pyke is just amazing- lyrical genius! and this song is so incredibly beautiful, such a beautiful tune, it never gets boring.
its so sad at the same time tho: he longs so much to be with this girl, but shes got someone else on her mind. and the only thing he can do to make her think of him is write this song.. aww i know that feeling, longing something you cant have.. and also that "quickening" feeling he talk about. possibly my favourite of josh's songs......

General CommentThis is an incredible song. I love the Feeding the Wolves ep. I can listen to this song again and again and not get tired of it. It's about how he wants someone but they are going after someone else. Beautiful song. My favourite line would have to be "Around you I forget behaviour".

General Commenti get the feeling it's about him falling for a girl, Who has no feelings for him (maybe she has feelings for one of his friends)
He changes when he's around (forgets behaviour) tries to impress her and looks like a fool etc.
it's a gorgeous song, I recently went through something similiar and this song became my anthem for that period of time.

    he is true talent.

General CommentI think it's about an ex. I think it's about her not being able to forgive him again for whatever they had been through. I think she's trying to move on and he's trying to get her back...but it's just too late this time.

This song breaks my heart in a beautiful way.
