"Milk and honey" as written by Goapele K. Mohlabane and Joseph Epperson....
Gold and silver is the autumn
Soft and tender are her skies
Yes and no are the answers
Written in my true love's eyes

Autumn's leaving and winter's coming
I think that I'll be moving along
I've got to leave her and find another
I've got to sing my heart's true song

Round and round the burning circle
All the seasons: one, two, and three
Autumn leaves and then there winter
Spring is born and wanders free

Gold and silver burns my autumns
All too soon they'd fade and die
And then I'd know, there'd be no others
Milk and honey were their lies

General Commentthe seasons reflect the way he feels about her. "yes and no" during autumn. "I've got to leave her and find another" in winter. But when spring comes and he is free, he realizes that there's no other like her

He was one of Nick's favourite artists.

General CommentI made myself an account just so I could comment on this song. This is my favorite Nick Drake song I have heard and I've been into him for a while now. To me even before i focused on the lyrics, the over all feeling I got from this song is the strongest feeling ive got from other song i have ever heard The soft guitar and over all vibe takes me to a place that is undescribeable. I was just hopeing this song had any sort of similar affect on anyone else, because this song is simply magic to me.

General CommentI agree, very beautiful song, though the quality of the Tanworth-Recordings is very bad, but this one is one of my favourites, along with "Winter Is Done" and the Dylan-Cover...

General CommentThis is one of the saddest and most beautiful songs I've ever heard. To me it is about a somone's lover who dies (is in heaven, the land of milk and honey?) and he tries to move on, but the seasons pass and he realizes no one can replace her.

General CommentIt's lush and gorgeous - the lyrics are so rich in imagery that the simple guitar is the perfect accompaniment. I may be in the minority, but I like the scratchy Tanworth recordings. They remind me of early blues recordings, so for me, it adds warmth and authenticity.
