Amuse myself with pots of paint, produce the demons within us pointles trials but don't be late, coz someones always pissed off

Disrespect me coz i'm ugly, don't give me your stupid pity

there are no hands to tell the time, master of my destination, your selfish hands invade this time and break through all of my fences

disrespect me coz i'm ugly, don't give me your stupid pity

    My Interpretation

Within both the doleful meolody and tone of his voice...it is like a deep self-hatred and shame. He feels as though the horrible person he sees himself as and the constant inner self-beradment are what he deserves, rather than all of the "stupid pity" of those around him...which simply frustrate him and create a further realization of being fake or shameful. The "amuse myself with pots of paint" could be his creative outlet, his inner demons coming out in art. And pointless trials may be the daily routine, and his part in it...he is tired and jaded.

Shrug I guess, overall, I just saw this as a personal expression of his...rather than a take on society.

    My Interpretation

I think it's about an abusive relationship, and here's why

Dazed and abused - Feeling trapped in a manipulative and abusive relationship, too dazed and lost in worry to get out of it

Amuse myself with pots of paint - Paint covers things up, and changes the color of the exterior of something, consider this perhaps metaphorically. Changing the appearance of yourself is pleasing for the short term because it prevents others from seeing your emotional scars, therefore reserving your self esteem in favor of your partner.

Produce the demons within us - Depressive behaviors kick in, probably these demons are being brought up from past trauma as well, as it's mentioned that they are 'within us'.

Pointles trials but don't be late, coz someones always pissed off - Meaning that you see no purpose in the things you do, and the 'trials' in life such as responding to the ridiculous pleads of your abuser, or listening to others' concern for your wellbeing without actually being attentive. After all, it's very unlikely that a victim is to talk about their trauma, and concern is useless if not annoying to someone when you're blinded to what really may be going on, as a normal bystander or even a friend would.

Disrespect me coz i'm ugly, don't give me your stupid pity - Eventually the victim believes that things are their fault, that it's entirely in their control and that they deserve what they get. Not deserving of an ounce of pity, the individual feels trapped by a narcissist.

There are no hands to tell the time - Nobody has open eyes, nobody can see the trauma they're going through, nobody can sense their desperation of help.

Master of my destination - Again, the individual feels that things are their fault

Your selfish hands invade this time and break through all of my fences - Fences being mental boundaries around particular subjects, such as an unwilligness to talk about abuse or depression. What the partner probably says are 'Selfish hands' of others who try to help her are viewed poorly, and long term friendships and family is disregarded in favor of this partner. Then, it's repeated that she believes herself to be a horrible person, deserving of the abuse with 'Disrespect me cause im ugly, don't give me your stupid pity'

Rinse wash and repeat with depressingly simple guitar, some of this interpretation is botched but I think the general idea got through. Not a great writer, but this meant enough to me to make an account.

I think this song is sort of talking about how society is today. like people disrespect people or make fun of them because they are different. but at the same time people also pity people cuz they are different. and i think its also talking about how that makes you feel lonely and whatnot. i could be wrong but thats just what i get from the song

    Song Meaning

i dont really get this song either- its like its made in chunks:
"Amuse myself with pots of paint" ( could be him being easily ammused or more likely easily distracted) "Produce the demons within us" (its so true!- we have low self esteem and we create our own demons about ourself, from ourself) "Pointless trials but dont be late, cos someones always pissed off" (People seem to get pissed off about such small things) "Disrespect me coz i'm ugly, don't give me your stupid pity" (you can judge me from my looks, but im deeper than that and i dont care what i look like and you shouldnt either, so dont give me you stupid pity. personality counts a lot more) "there are no hands to tell the time" (not really sure on this one, could be that the concept of time was made by humans, we labelled it, and we label everything) "master of my destination" (what WE do and the choice we make define us and where we end up in life) "your selfish hands invade this time and break through all of my fences" (you dont mind your business for your own purposes and try to break into everything private, and break into the things i wanted to hide)

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
