"This Is How It Always Starts" as written by and Jason Lytle....
This is how it always starts
All order falls apart
Okay, so who put this key in the mix?

Things were stable yesterday
But now they're blown away
Oh shit, I can't let them see me like this

Nothing sweet
Nothing nice
Nothing kiss, only fights

Nothing clear
Nothing bright
Nothing I'll feel tonight

Nothing great
Nothing good
Nothing is as it should

Nothing rad
Nothing right
Nothing I'll feel tonight

This is how it always starts
Dumb choices from the heart
Oh shit, I can't let them see me like this

Nothing sweet
Nothing nice
Nothing kiss, only fights

Nothing clear
Nothing bright
Nothing I'll feel tonight

Nothing great
Nothing good
Nothing is as it should

Nothing rad
Nothing right
Nothing I'll feel tonight

General CommentTo me, this song seems to show what it is like to be with someone for so long, that you loose grip on your reality with them. You're so comfortable with things, that you take them for granted and when you realize they want something else it sets things into a downward spiral... I've listened to a lot of music and the lyrical splendor of Grandaddy is simply amazing. Please comment on this great song! Thanks...

General Comment"Okay... So who put whiskey in the mix"

Is it that difficult to look at the liner notes?

General CommentWhat the fuck, how in the hell have I listened to this album before and not realized how fucking beautiful it is. I am going to lock myself in a closet with my ipod and a bottle of whiskey and listen to this album over and over.

General Commentathopewehang, hope you survided your whiskey!

I have loved this song and shows to me the break down (but inevitable?) of a long and steady relationship. Started off so well but in the end it shatters and the truth shows itself. This really does not need citing as the evidence is so clear here...

Would have loved for the band (or ny great band for that matter) to have finished with this song and as the instruments fade away the musicians each walk off till finally the keyboardist is left there, all alone in the spotlight.
The stage goes black and that's it. No more Grandaddy :( The crowd shout for an encore and behold, thus, the bad re-emerge! They all in turn take a bow to the audience to acknowledge their thanks but somewhere, by gosh, somehow, a cream pie is thrown! NO, someone is hit on the face! A cream pie fight ensues and what turns from a tragic final ending moment now is interrupted (after long moments of carnage) by a single chord played by one person - 'You give a little love' from the final of Bugsy Malone then finishes their set and by God, was that not sadder and more memorable still?

General Commentdoesn't jason speak to just about every second in a person's life? one song or another, it ends up being such a personal listening experience, but if you want to, you can distance yourself and just proclaim him a bit of a whiner, (which i do, when i can't handle how spot-on he is with his insights).
simlplicity wrapped around soundscapes and sometimes bangin guitar hooks....but then again the lyrics are just so clever in how sneaky they are....i'm not gonna write a thesis, but 6 years ago my fiance turned me on to grandaddy via 'now it's on' which i immediatley loved, esp the video, but it's only now that i'm becoming a humble scholar of jeez it's jason and friends.
right now, he's my go-to when i feel despair creeping in. but then again, i am one the emotive members of this ride.......

i hope jason is happy in montana right now with the snow and trees and maybe a fireplace (surely a fireplace, right?)

    maybe a fambly cat.....and a dog.....
    i hope he doesnt' hunt.......

i hope he stays alive is all. really. no bad juju like sparklehorse. his passing was devastating beyond words.

so peace out, y'all and happy holidays cuz here they come....and this is always how it starts.......

    besos

General CommentA sort of play on 'Smile' by Nat King Cole, with the tune and theme. You can also hear the word 'smile' through the fuzz at the start (Jason even sings a bit of it in the demo).
