He certainly did earn that reputation.
I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I thinks it's wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together
I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I thinks it's wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
And you may find a friend
I knew a man that I did not care for
And then one day this man gave me a call
We sat and talked about things on our mind
And now this man, he is a friend of mine
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
And you may find a friend
I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I thinks it's wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together
I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I thinks it's wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together
Don't be afraid of love, don't be afraid
Don't be afraid, don't be afraid to love, listen to me
Everybody needs a little love
Everybody needs somebody (don't be afraid, don't be afraid to love)
That they can be thinking of, now reach out
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
And you may find a friend
I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I thinks it's wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together

Light Up The Sky

The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
This song is too typical of the era: naive, immature, trite, dated, silly. I just heard it on the radio after going several decades. I hope never to hear it again. It's SO bad, I cant even laugh at it.
@MP3754 Pretty sure nobody has put a gun to your head and forced you to listen. And seeing as you went out of your way to make that comment means you went LOOKING for this song. You must have some type of feelings for it. I don\'t go out of my way to criticize things I don\'t like, I try my best to avoid them. But that\'s just me.

@MP3754 You must be a millennial or GenZ-er - you know, The Useless Generations. I commented to state my opinion of the song. Don\'t like it? Don\'t read it, Nanci.
