"Quote" as written by and Armstrong Howard....
Quote, "you are my soul." unquote now does that sound familiar?
Kiss the boy and make him feel this way. Quote, "well this is me." unquote
You have been so ugly your entire life, so why change now?

Is this how you want to go down? right before my eyes, you are the saddest sight I know. You're quiet, you never make a sound but here inside my mind. You are the loudest one I know.

Quote, "We never talk." unquote and that's when I don't answer. Don't you dare ask why, because you don't want to know. Quote, "Well woe is me." unquote. How different I've become and no one understands, my dear, no one really cares.

Is this how you want to go down? right before my eyes, you are the saddest sight I know. You're quiet, you never make a sound but here inside my mind. You are the loudest one I know.

And you were right, right from the start it took everythign you had, but you finally broke my... and now the old things will pass away. I saw your light once, did you see mine? But not all things will pass away. You turned your light off, so I turned mine away from your sadness. away from the nothing that you feel for me.

Is this how you want to go down? right before my eyes, you are the saddest sight I know. You're quiet, you never make a sound but here inside my mind. You are the loudest one I know.

And you were right, right from the start it took everythign you had, but you finally broke my... quote. "Hey listen, 'cause I"ll only say this once... I finally found the words that mean enough to me...'Goodbye, my soul." unquote

General CommentWell i personally have talked to the band and this is what they said about this song, along with Stop and Say You Love me....

stop is the song I wrote when I first started falling for this girl I was with, my love song for her, I wrote the "hey listen cuz I'll only say this once" line in reference to me only saying "I love you" one more time, like she was the last girl blah blah, well we ended up ending our relationship and I wrote quote, there was a lot of BS throughout the break up so I used the same line to bring the whole thing full circle and say that this time i was saying good bye "only once", the whole album works that way, every opposite song has to do with the other

if ya take the 11 songs

    cross
    stop
    cold
    eclipsed
    beg
    over
    possession
    dark that follows
    promise
    quote
    tease

so cross and tease, stop and quote, cold and promise, eclipsed and dark, and then it takes a little detour and beg and over, possession doesnt count, I didnt write it

    thats the deal with that

So all of these songs have an opposing song with it, and they are in a certain order on the cd. Kinda cool if you ask me.

General Commentah I quite love this song and it makes me cry to.. my favorite part being

And you were right, right from the start it took everythign you had, but you finally broke my... and now the old things will pass away. I saw your light once, did you see mine? But not all things will pass away. You turned your light off, so i turned mine away from your sadness. away from the nothing that you feel for me.

it says it all right there for the song.. He gave her the world and she didn't care in the end. he always spoke in words that she wouldn't listen to and grew to hate him as a person, he figured out she didn't care and though it was hard broke up with her. as silverstein says and it can go with this Evans Blue song "you can't fix a shattered heart so don't even try" but of corse is what only i think.

General CommentMatisyn is a tremendous song writer and I love how he makes every song very subjective. While believing it is how each song relates to each person that gives it it's meaning, I feel this song is everything there is to the falling apart/breaking up/fallout of a relationship. So many hints and lines that talk about love, lost love, etc., seems as though this song (even though songs can almost be called poems) is the most sincere and unique poem-type song ever. This song to me is the means of a relationship to which they fall in love, he falls harder, then she ends up leaving him for w/e she feels is of more worth. Hence, "You are the saddest sight i know" - he did everything right, he gave her everything, and she still sees it fit to find something "better". And throughout the song he describes how he still cares so much and he still hears her even though she's absent, and I think that shows a mental battle if you will, to get over something that deems you unworthy. And in a personal way, i'd agree that he told her that he always knew she'd do this to him, always knew she'd reach for something higher, possibly because of beauty or in light to what she can accomplish or simply foolishness. And to me the end is so disgusting, because (again, from subjective personal means) there can be a million goodbyes to anything that you leave/is left behind, but only one actually takes on the full meaning. Relationships, family, work, problems, past, etc., that's what makes it subjective. But i think he illustrates how that one goodbye that is (meaningful) is when the person honestly thinks, believes, and agrees that the truth is It's Gone.. no matter what from that point forward, it's a realization of facing the truth that w/e it may be is no longer existant. Amazing song, rock on EB

General CommentYea ok..but this is why music is such a beautiful thing. Every song.. & I don't care how straightforward it may be to some people..song lyrics will have different meanings to everybody. There really is no right or wrong answer. It's all based on peoples' opinions & everybody has them. I'm not criticizing anybody either so don't get this twisted..Just throwing in my 2 cents. :)

    General Commentmy favorite line is:

"How different I've become and no one understands, my dear, no one really cares."

to me thta line is about when i change and dont want to, but cant do a thing about it.and no one takes into consideration how much shit i put up with each and every day and it gets to you. "but no one understands, my dear, no one really cares

General CommentYou're quiet, you never make a sound but here inside my mind. You are the loudest one I know.

this line hits home so close to me about one of my past relationships.. i still love him so much.. .we had a bad falling out, he moved away, the words about being the loudest in my mind meaning how much he still consumes my head everyday how much i think about it... we made up but we only talk about once every 2 months online or something like that .sucks.

General CommentTo me, this song is about letting go of a relationship that meant alot to you. That's why he says "Goodbye my soul" at the end.
