"The Promise and the Threat" as written by and Clarkson Lauzon....
They won't want you for who you are
So you should step outside your skin
Something tells me that we were ment to be
But how can that be?
You run on evil, I run on fumes and stale air
When she came out, she brought her anger
She left her sympathy behind the walls she built for me

So we start spinning
You wouldn't want to let us go easy
Or you just might become too weak to stop spinning
You wouldn't want to let him down easy
Or he just might become the promise

I want you for who you are
So you can stay inside your skin
Oh, something tells me love isn't enough
But how can that be?
You're not so evil, I'm not so good, crazy or mean

So we start spinning
You wouldn't want to let us go easy
Or you just might become too weak to stop spinning
You wouldn't want to let him down easy
Or he just might become the threat
She's so dramatic, she says, "I'm Leaving"
Is that a promise or a threat?

So we start spinning
You wouldn't want to let us go easy
Or you just might become too weak to stop spinning
You wouldn't want to let him down easy
Or he just might become the one you want
I am the voice you'll never get
I am the one I am the promise and the threat

General CommentGood song..hell, every song on the cd is good. I think this song is about a guy that likes this girl but she's not sure about him.. "She says, I'm leaving".."you wouldn't want to let him down easy or he just might become...the one you want." It just seems like this girl doesn't know what she wants. It seems like she's torn between going for looks/money or choosing somebody thats gonna like her for ger. Thats my take on this song..Great album though. It was only $10.99! I would've gladly paid double for it..

General CommentI guess you've had to have heard that exact line "is that a promise, or a threat?" to really get this song. It's got the spirit and the feel of that deciding moment when two people finally call it quits. I can picture a lot of tears, raised voices, and regretted words. She says it's over and she's leaving, and he's calling her out, asking if she's trying to scare him...it's not working. "is that a promise, or a threat?"

General CommentThis song was paired up with Evans Blue's Cold and so the songs come full circle. I think the girl doesnt quite know who she is yet, in private shes different than she is in public hence the "when she came out, she brought her anger
she left her sympathy behind the walls she built for me" shes also probably angered by the world for not accepting her for who she is or maybe angered that the world doesnt seem to accept their relationship.
"you wouldn't want to let us go easy" maybe be that they know their perfect for each other but different forces are trying to split them apart but she wont let go with out a fight because she knows it is worth it. The guy on the other hand does dare for her but is more influenced by the outside world hence the line "you wouldn't want to let him down easy". Shes afraid to lose him so she tries to make as little mistakes as possible to hold on to him.
Now the guys view comes into play with "I want you for who you are," saying that he does want this relationshipt to work out. But with the "something tells me love isn't enough" lyric hes saying that its hard and maybe the girl is unsure of what exactly shes striving for.
"you're not so evil, I'm not so good" might mean that at first they thought they were very different from each other and that it wouldnt work out but now they find that they are similar and questioning on why the outside world says it wouldnt work out. But on the other hand they're starting to fight because both are so afraid of losing each other and to try to stick together they're threatening each other with "im leaving" but both know it isnt true when they say it and they wonder if and when it will be true

just on how i look at it

General CommentI think that it just repeats 'so we start spinning' instead of the other stuff u put in on the chorus. I dont have the cd but thats my belief

General CommentTo me, this song continues where "Dark That Follows" left off.

This girl is in a relationship with a guy, but she's having an affair with the singer on the side. She loves them both, and won't leave her boyfriend for the singer. At the end of the song, ("Dark that Follows") IMO, it seems that the singer gives up on her and stops waiting for her to leave her relationship for him.

This song starts out where I think she tries to leave her boyfriend, and they start fighting and she can't really leave him and keeps coming back to him. The first verse ("She brought her anger/she left her sympathy') seems to say that she goes to the singer to rant about the fights with her boyfriend, not realizing that it hurts the singer to hear about her boyfriend.

I think because of this aspect THEY start having their own fights (first chorus) about how she can't leave and he's thinking that because of this her own boyfriend might start to look better than him ("the promise").

The second verse is him apologizing for fighting with her, but thinks that loving her isn't enough, even though he's willing to keep trying.

Second chorus is another round of fighting, but this time her boyfriend is the threat to her "relationship" with the singer. The part that goes, "She's so dramatic, she says she's leaving... is that a promise, or a threat?" When she says she's leaving, he wonders if it's a promise (leaving her boyfriend) or a threat (leaving him).

Last chorus is again, more arguing, the singer wondering again if the boyfriend will be the one she chooses over him. Finally he realizes that she's never going to leave the boyfriend for him, that he is the promise she'll never keep, and the threat to her other, real relationhip.
