I'm on the wagon now but she doesn't know
I'm getting high on the down low
Cause when I got the music I got no place to go
Unless I got a bottle in me

I'm in the Cadillac, they're starting to stare
Who's the guy with the blood in his hair
The last thing I remember I was going somewhere
And then the stop sign got in the way

I'm laying low in a hospital bed
I gotta a dent and a crack in the head
That's okay cause I got no idea what I just said
Gotta love the hospital meds

I'm getting high on the D.L.

General Commentummm you're right, but wrong. He's getting high, but on prescibed drugs. The title implies that he is getting high "legally" but in reality abusing the perscriptions.

Nofx likes to point out things like this because many conservates are opposed to drug use, yet they abuse medical drugs (Rush Limbaugh).

General Commentlet me rephrase... i dont mean "many conservatives" in reality its more than likely not many at all. What i MEAN to say is that the mind set of some conservatives is to NOT condone illegal drug use, but drugs of the codine/oxycodone variety sometimes cause the same people to create double standards... this is what they are trying to point out.

General Commenttical2k i think you've read too much into the song, and you're in fact wrong, the title doesn't imply anything about legality. Down Low means to keep things on the quiet so he's getting high quietly while no one knows. Pretty simple really

General CommentI think it's got several meanings, but I mostly hear a story. A guy likes getting high, but for whatever reason, he can't. Maybe he got busted and he's on parole, who knows. Either way, he stages an accident (he puts fake blood in his hair and runs into a stop sign) so he can get high legally (on the downlow) on the very, very strong painkillers in the hospital. That's what it's about to me.

General CommentI think jeff's right, listening to some nofx songs it seems like fat mike's been made to walk the line, but in this song he tells that he can't ( or won't).

General CommentI think judging by the music video, that there is a deeper meanin about Christians and conservatives being hypocrits. Also I think it's important to realise that this song doesn't disprove of substance abuse it simply suggests being open about it. Great tune. Nihilism Forever.

General CommentI think it's just a fun, cartoonish song about getting high. It's funny. If Fat Mike had a serious point to make, he'd just say it.
