[Repeat: x2]
I am an independent mother fucker
And I'm here to take your money
I'm waking round and I'm here
To steal away your virginity

[Repeat: x2]
Give me everything I'll break up your limbs and I'll
Put you in a truck and take you around the world
Think you're really cool 'cause of my lies
You all love yourself may say you're better than me

[Repeat: x2]
I am an independent mother fucker
And I'm here to take your money
I'm waking round and I'm here
To steal away your virginity

[Repeat: x2]
Give me everything I'll break up your limbs and I'll
Put you in a truck and take you around the world
Think you're really cool 'cause of my lies
You all love yourselves and you better love me

I think this song is about a prostitute...? And while she/he is all arrogant "Take your money/Steal your virignity/I'll break your limbs" at the same time she/he is feeling sorta lost "You all love yourself may say you're better than me." I dunno, I just imagine thats how a prositute would feel - kinda arrogant and self confident to get work, but feeling all shit inside and feeling like everyone's judging them. Meh, Iunno, whatevzzz m8.

MMm, great song. Corrections (I think) "you all love yourselves and you better love me" i hear: "And I love you so much, so you better love me" plus I hear "i'm wicked, rad, and i'm here.." plus I'm pretty sure it's "put you in a TRUNK and take you around the world" seeing as its in the title and stuff

Other than that - how great is this song??

and also I hear "think you're really cool cos my mom likes you" instead of "cos of my lies"

I think indeed is a prostitute that almost got feelings for this "client" and its expressing this feelings in a weird way "I'll put you in a truck and take you around the world" and that last line would make sense to this. I love this song so much, its pure greatness within its own kind, short and to the point but explosive.

I think she's saying "I'm an independent motherfucker; and I'm here to change your mind" the first time, and then "take your money"

I think it's about phony politicians trying to get the youth vote, getting people to vote for the first time, begging for support, affirmation, acceptance, etc.

Jemina said that Jamin wrote this song for one of his other bands, but she said, "You have to let me sing it, it's so much funnier when a girl does it!" Which is pretty interesting.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
