Last December
The coldest day I ever knew
And I remember
Staring at what once was you
and I should compromise
We're different in so many ways
and I remember
Do you remember it that way?

Open up my eyes and
Step into the sun

I need a holiday
From the way I feel
The way you make me feel
I need to get away
And some time to heal
From the things you said to...

Walking slowly
Up the stairs into your room
Lay me down now
Among the walls that know the truth
and I should compromise
or everything will stay the same
and I remember
Do you remember it that way?

Open up your eyes and
Step into the sun

I need a holiday
From the way I feel
The way you make me feel
I need to get away
And some time to heal
From the things you said to me

A Holiday
(I know you want out)

this song sounds like it's about someone who is in a disfunctional relationship, and the person has a whole bunch of memories from this relathionship, and that person just wants out for a while, the person just needs some time to rethink all the crap that's been going on

and then also, this person wants to make the relationship work out, but there are a whole bunch of bad feelings that this person wants to get away from

anyway, i think this songs is too personal for the band to be able to go inot any more depth

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
