these places, they don't make me happy
and this food, no, it don't make me full
and the moon makes me sad for the love that we had
it was you, oh, you, who did me good

and these shows that I watch in the daytime
and these pages that I read in the night
and these girls that I see, well, they just remind me
it was you, oh, you, who did me good

you did me good
you did me good
you did me good
you did me good
yeah, you did me good
oh, did me good
you did me good
you did me good
when we stayed up til we saw the sun
yeah, you did me good

well, baby I've been thinking all about you
and I've been visiting with you each night in my dreams
and I know that you'll come back
cause I have seen that other man
and baby, he ain't doing you no good
so come back
oh, and do me good
do me good
do me good
do me some good
do me good
do me good
and we'll stay up til we see the sun
and do us some good

she's a good one when she's cleaning out her room
she won't like you, no, she loves me
I've seen trouble come my way
I've seen many a dark day
but I've seen the sun coming up in your face

and I know that you'll come back
cause I've seen that other man
and baby, baby, baby
he ain't doing you no good
so come back
and do me good
do me good
do me good
do me good
yeah, do me some good
do me good
do me good
oh, do me good
cause you did me good
you did me good
you did me good
yeah, you did me good
you did me good
you did me good
we can stay up til we see the sun
yeah, we'll stay up til we see the sun
like we stayed up til we saw the sun
when you did me good

General CommentThe best part of the song is when he starts with "Well baby, I've been thinking all about you."

General CommentMy stars, this songs breaks my heart so much. I can totally relate

"and these shows that I watch in the daytime
and these pages that I read in the night
and these girls that I see, well, they just remind me
it was you, oh, you, who did me good"

Nothing and nobody can give him that feeling she (or he?)

I can relate and most anyone who's ever lost and love can as well. This is the song that sold me on "Sun, Sun, Sun"

as a dude that's been in this situation I have to say the part where blake speaks in spoken word

"well, baby I've been thinking all about you
and I've been visiting with you each night in my dreams
and I know that you'll come back
cause I have seen that other man
and baby, he ain't doing you no good
    so come back"

always gives me hope for my own hopeless situation! ha!

General Commentthoward, correct me if i'm wrong, but by "she" i'm assuming you meant jenny? if so, what makes you think it's necessarily about jenny? i'm just wondering, that's all. cos it was very obvious (intentionally?) in The Bank & Trust, but over here, it remains rather vague. i've always assumed that it was about Emily - the muse that seems to appear in almost all of Blake's songs.

General Commentjadedgypsy - it's an assumption based on references in other songs, including "bank and trust" (like you mentioned) and "it was love," which is just a few songs earlier than this - several reviews also mentioned that one as containing pretty obvious references to jl. there are lots of other lines in the album also. actually, i think the "emily" character in these song is a thinly veiled reference to jl. do you buy that?

General Commentbased on talk some time back on RK.net, Emily is the girl in the 'Not Going Home' video and she is apparently Blake's girlfriend/ex. i guess if that's true, then she's not merely a character.

but yeah, in songs like these, where the name and identity is not specifically obvious, the other could be anybody or nobody.

i tend to believe that there is an Emily, just because I can see a difference in songs where Emily is mentioned and those where Jenny is insinuated lyrically. there's just something different with his impressions of them. like in Emily vs The Bank & Trust (which is most likely Jenny).

General Commentthoward, emily is definitely a real person. in the liner notes of this album, the first person blake thanks is someone named "emily anne." i also read that posting on rk.net that emily was in the video for not going home. not sure if she's a current or ex girlfriend, though.

also-- maybe it's because i've been brainwashed by the whole fleetwood mac/lindsey buckingham/stevie nicks thing (they are still writing songs to and about each other after all these years "apart") but I don't see anything wrong with Blake writing songs about Jenny and vice versa. even though they aren't "together" anymore technically, it's obvious they still mean a great deal to each other or there would be no more rilo kiley, ya think? and jenny definitely still has blake elements in her songs. there's nothing wrong with that. let's start with "you are what you love," and "pull me in tighter."
