"The Chemist (Acoustic)" as written by and Dan Wilson....
One more time, falling on new ground
Bracing a chase lounge, I'm a member
This one truth, I can be discrete
Words that escape me, I remember

Clarity watching eyes, I can't see I can't read
Passionless vacation, you're not telling anyone
The sum falls in a hole, it's chemistry chemical
Follow the pattern if you can
Stick around it will change again

One more line stable guess
Hollow, why did I feel sick?
Misunderstanding tempting tolerance
You're not telling anyone
I'm not telling anyone

This sounds atrocious, the miles horrific
They exercise those last words, I'll hang on to mine
One more line, I can stay focused
Words are atrocious, I'm a member

Lying out in the sun, keep it like a secret
And I may seem not full well, all dried up and
Here comes the chemist again,
This is everything I am.

General CommentThese lyrics are wrong. I believe it's "the sound is atrocious, the mouths horrific".

I think refering to the sound of the gunshot being atrocious. The song is about Derrick Plourde and how doing drugs made him depressed "elements in the pool were all dried up" meaning how some drugs cause a release of neurotransmitters like serotonin then the person becomes depressed later because that neurotransmitter is all used up.

"You're not telling anyone" of course saying that he never told anyone about how bad his problems were and "hollow quiet I feel sick" how he felt when he heard Derrick took his own life.

General Commentaegion is kinda right but remember that this song we know is about Derrick, but it was written before his death.
so it can't be about the gunshot...

General CommentYeah this song was written before he killed himself. There were some lyrical changes made I think. The original is on the Live in a Dive record.
