"I Want You To Stay" as written by Lukas James Wooller, Paul Anthony Smith, Thomas Alexander English, Duncan Robert Lloyd and Archis Tiku....
I rewrite my life beneath the moonlight,
Please hold me now till my breath runs out,
There are many things that I am not,
But there's one thing that I can't deny

A double bluff you fed me lines,
The shortest cut you're searching for,
A mesh of tones surround your eyes,
I wish I knew how it came to this

I always said you could rely on me,
Now it seems that I was wrong,
I want you to stay,
I want you to stay with me

'Cause nothing works round here,
Where cranes collect the sky,
I long for the neon signs of night,
'Cause nothing works round here,
You know the way I feel,
Can you remember what we had?

Why do you think I over take?
I speak to you and you say no,
A camera runs just to collect,
I wish I knew how it came to this

The lies we tell are bound on film,
And you start to push your lips to mine,
Outside my room you closed your eyes,
And in the end it came to this

I always said you could rely on me,
Now it seems that I was wrong,
I want you to stay,
I want you to stay with me

'Cause nothing works round here,
Where cranes collect the sky,
I think of your face at night,
'Cause nothing works round here

You know the way I feel
Can you remember what we had?
As time gets more compressed,
You're always my reminder,
A lifetime disappears,
Can you remember what we had?
As time gets more compressed,
You're always my reminder,
You're always my reminder

You know the way I feel,
You know the way I feel

    General CommentBeautiful song.
I guess it's about a girl breaking up with a boy who's still in love with her and doesn't want it to be over. They've really put a lot of effort in describing the setting of the situation. Clearly the city at night, a desolated place near a building site, with CCTV camera's filming the breakup, just to picture what a crappy place it is for a breakup.

General CommentWhy yes, I can spell fabulous.
    This is a beautiful song.
I don't understand "A mesh of tones surround your eyes" though. It always made me think she just wore dark makeup to conceal her emotions but it seems stupid now..

General CommentMy favourite Maximo Park song. The melancholy of it is really beautiful. It's what they do best.

General CommentI think by 'a mesh of tones' he means a bunch of different emotions are in her expression, so he can't quite pick out what specificlly she's feeling..
but yeah, an amazing song, goes without saying. I was so glad when they released it as a single. Although radio edits are evil.

General CommentOne of the best songs on the album, though they're all great.
I always heard "mesh of tones" like mesh of /thorns/, as if they're lost in a bramble of emotions, scared to move in case it hurts.
"I speak to you and you don't say no"
I felt it was about a relationship that's broken down, gone bitter, and he's trying to get it back together "can you remember what we had?...you know the way I feel" because they do still love each other underneath - when " you start to push your lips to mine... it came to this" they fall back into it all over again, so as to stop being angry about the lies...
It really is an amazing song, though.

General CommentI thought it was 'Where cranes connect the sky', as in a visual metaphor for the graphic lines of the cranes which interlock to create a network across the skies of the North East.
    Anyone else?

General Commenti think that the songs our velocity, the books from boxes and a i want you to stay is a some kind of triology. They are about a long distance relationship where the sky is only thing that connects them. She is his light in the night sky. She cant stay with him they have their own lifes and their realtionship is impossible.
