"All Around Me" as written by Lacey Nicole Sturm, James Culpepper, Kirkpatrick Seals, Jared Hartmann and Sameer Bhattacharya....
My hands are searching for you
My arms are outstretched towards you
I feel you on my fingertips
My tongue dances behind my lips for you

This fire rising through my being
Burning, I'm not used to seeing you

I'm I'm alive, I'm I'm alive

I can feel you all around me
Thickening the air I'm breathing
Holding on to what I'm feeling
Savoring this heart that's healing

My hands float up above me
And you whisper you love me
And I begin to fade
Into our secret place

The music makes me sway
The angels singing say we are alone with you
I am alone, and they are too with you

I'm alive, I'm alive

I can feel you all around me
Thickening the air I'm breathing
Holding on to what I'm feeling
Savoring this heart that's healing

And so I cry (holy)
The light is white (holy)
And I see you

I'm alive, I'm alive, I'm alive

I can feel you all around me
Thickening the air I'm breathing
Holding on to what I'm feeling
Savoring this heart that's healing

Take my hand
I give it to you
Now you owe me
All I am
You said you would never leave me
I believe you
I believe

I can feel you all around me
Thickening the air I'm breathing
Holding on to what I'm feeling
Savoring this heart that's healed

General CommentThe meaning of this song is about her relationship in God.

"My tongue dances behind my lips for you"

That doesn't mean that it is perverted to relate that to God. If you are going to take this on a litteral sense then how does a love song relate when she says

    "And so I cry
    The light is white
    And I see you
    I'm alive, I'm alive, I'm alive"

That is talking about her in heaven. It's only then when she is really alive. She has made it to the place she has always wanted to be. Everything is perfect.

"My hands float up above me
And you whisper you love me
    And I begin to fade
    Into our secret place"

That is talking about praise and worship. People raise their hands in praise. Most prayers contain some sense of love for God. Also, in prayer most people fade into their secret place where it is only the connection of them and God.

PLUS, lets think about this-- Flyleaf is a Christian rock band therefore I am pretty sure this is a song about God. You may think its a love song but it may just be her love for Jesus Christ.

This song is totally about God.

My InterpretationOkay, so before I get a lot of people telling me I am wrong, this is MY interpretation of this amazing song. As I am an atheist I do not see the song in the same light as Christians, my father is very anti religious, but personally I wish I'd grown up with something as close to a lot of people as the god they believe in. Though, for me I have been taught not to see it.

    This song to me signifies my ongoing struggle with depression. Allow me to elaborate;

"My hands are searching for you, my arms are outstretched towards you,
I feel you on my fingertips, my tongue dances behind my lips for you," ~ minutes before it catches up to me. I swing my legs over the bed, stretch my arms and it's there.

"this fire rising through my being, burning I'm not used to seeing you" ~ it's relly getting to me, taking over, and you can see the sadness it never used to leave, and I'm still coming to terms with it.

"I'm alive" ~I'm alive and that's something, at times I don't want to be, but for some reason I still am and if I'm lucky enough to be alive, why not go on?

"I can feel you all around me, thickening the air I'm breathing," ~It's there, always there, always with me, in every breath, every thought and every step.

"holding on to what I'm feeling, savoring this heart that's healing," I have to hold on to the positives and try and be happy, and though it hurts one day my heart is growing stronger.

"my hands float up above me, and you whisper you love me,
and I began to fade, into our secret place," ~it takes over me, it deludes me into thinking there is nothing but sorrow, so I fade from my personality and I become almost like a zombie, not really caring for my life.

"the music makes me sway," the call of the sadness makes me sway from my morals and I forget my promises

"the angels singing say we are alone with you," I wrote a song, about how I see depression as an angel, almost a guardian helping me become stronger and relish happy times when they come, they tell me to stay, and I don't want to but I must.

"I am alone and they are too with you," ~even around friends I feel lonely, so lonely like it's me and the sadness, those dark angels and me, alone

"and so I cry, the light is white, and I see you" ~ I break down, the light at the end of my dark times so close yet so far, and I see the cause of ahy I am this way and I get pushed back.

"take my hand I give it to you, now you owe me all I am," I give myself up to it, I can't fight it, and I lapse into a low, it takes over, and I see no hope, but I will get back the happiness I lost one day, because life owes me that at least

"you said you would never leave me, I believe you, I believe" I don't see a way out anymore, I don't believe I can get there, but I must somehow, and I will it to be over.

General CommentAre you guys joking? This song is obviously a love song... Why would her tongue be dancing for god? That's just perverted on the highest level. It's a love song. Best song on the cd by far.

General CommentAbout what OneMoreDay's comment, when she says "My tongue dances behind my lips for you" She means she singing/praising to God. You know? When you talk you move your tongue- have you thought of that?

I admit, at first I thought it was a love song too but then I got to thinking. If you want to believe it's a love song or a worship song for God- only the band knows for sure.

General CommentShe sounds like she wants to make out with god in this song.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure it is about god but it's written ambiguously on purpose so that it could sound like a love song.

General Commentits about god, yes, and about love, yes as well.
it could be about a boyfriend that she loves but she sees god in him.i don't think its about one or the other. its also about how she was hurt before and now shes letting someone else in. probably god. flyleaf is so amaizng i didn't know they were a christian rock band

General CommentI know this is a Christian band, but I see more to this song than the everlasting presence of a god and the band's devotion. When I listen to this song, I hear so many emotions, so many thoughts screaming between the lines.
The first thing I imagine, and I could be projecting my own feelings and experience into the meaning of this song, is the mourning of a lost companion. Except they're not entirely lost. Lacey feels him/her everywhere as if they're not actually gone because they promised to never leave her, and she is willing herself to believe they're still there with her, physically, rather than just in spirit. She longs to see them again, to feel them as more than just a presence.
The other thing I imagine is an ongoing battle with depression, and a desperate search for something/someone tangible as she attempts to prevent herself from falling even further. She knows she's still alive, so that's something, but she's still searching for something real. She can feel so much around her, but it's as if none of it is real, or no one can see her. In the acoustic version of this song, she says "I'm still alive," and I see this as a method of obtaining some help, someone to realize that she's still there.

General CommentIt's funny because at first it sounds alot like it's just a make-out song sort of track, but it's obvious that it's about prayer and praise. The crazy high feeling you get sometimes when you talk to God. It actually does feel a lot like falling in love. It's so powerful...
There is this burning feeling that tears through you, your heart just swells and you feel all loose, and then it's like nothing else in the world matters. Everything else just leaves you alone and you feel as if God is holding you to his heart.. It's amazing!!
That's definetly what this song is about.
