@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
It's not so much the pain
It's more the actual knife
Pretending the picture is perfect
I cut myself to sleep
I close my eyes for a second
And curse my fragile soul
I scream to hide that I'm lonely
The echo calls my name
If I ever
If I never
Make me understand the thought whatever
Make me see
Make me be
Make me understand you're there for me
Take this life
I'm right here
Stay a while and breathe me in
Take this life
I'm right here
Stay a while and breathe me in
The rain drops just beg to hit me
What now hasn't rained for days
No time to play hide-and-seek
I call on you to take me on
Break me down to pieces
Put me back, do it right this time
Struggling to fill this empty shell
Burn all my efforts
In the end it means nothing
If I ever
If I never
Make me understand the thought whatever
Make me see
Make me be
Make me understand you're there for me
Take this life
I'm right here
Stay a while and breathe me in
Take this life
I'm right here
Stay a while and breathe me in
These thoughts burn a hole in my heart
These thoughts will keep me feeling
These thoughts burn a hole in my heart
These thoughts will keep me feeling
If I ever
If I never
Make me understand the thought whatever
Make me see
Make me be
Make me understand you're there for me
Take this life
I'm right here

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
Midnight
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms.
“Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
From a chat with Anders Fridén and Björn Gelotte at a swedish newspapers homepage:
Swallow the Sun säger: Tjenare. Jag gillar er nya video m/ Men vad är det ni vill säga med den? Något ang. självmord? In Flames säger: snarare tvärtom - ta vara på det du har innan det är försent
Translated it would mean something like: Swallow the Sun says: Hi. I like your new video, but what do you want to say with it? Something about suicide? In Flames says: Rather the oposite, take care of what you have before its too late
@Jurre I agree ... definitely gives the impression that their life is not something they'll give up easily.
At slash13:
I'm fine with the fact that people interpret the lyrics in their own way but ... you're just WAY OFF. They'll never do lyrics like that. Anders is writing lyrics on a lot more "real" level now. I'll just quote him...
"You might think this is some suicide/murder song, but "Take This Life" doesn't mean "Kill yourself" it means "Take care of this life and do something meaningful with it." It felt like whenever a big fucking mountain appeared in my life, a problem, and I managed to get over it something new came up. I felt like I needed a little push, I needed energy from somewhere."
hmm yeah def sounds like God....i dont think it could be a lover or a friend because they wouldnt have the power to like "put him back together"
rockin song
@headbangforjesus love can definitely put you back together. Many shattered men have had their lives corrected through the love of another woman.
i know my interpretation is bit christian.why it cant be a song to god/some divine energy? "I close my eyes for a second And meet the friendly soul"-i see it as metitation/prayer "Make me understand you're there for me"how do u see that line.who is he talking to?
It's not friendly soul, its' fragile soul. <br /> I think that means that when he closes his eyes he sees himself and his own soul, which is fragile.
@TrentNIN yeah i dont think in flames is very christian i doubt theyd write that stuff
I just read all your comments on this song and i was wondering if i was the only one who thought that this was a song about love?? I went to see In Flames the other day and Anders introduced the song by saying : "This song is for a beatiful girl, from an ugly boy". That's also the way i interpreted it but i may be wrong...
@Gabz my thoughts are the same, i always thought about it as well...nice
@Gabz it could definitely be about a love they have lost (through death or separation)
@Gabz It's about love, but not romantic love.
i think this song is about suicide and living life before its over
its not about suicide, its " take this life " you have and do something with it..kinda
This song is definitely about someone who is struggling against depression and suicidal thoughts. It's easy to over analyze a song like this but if you look at the music video for this song there's people who try to commit suicide in it but give up at the end of the video.
I think they wanted to express the feeling of someone who is just barely clinging on to life and so badly wants someone to be there for them and help them.
If you don't believe me check out the music video.
The song is from the perspective of someone who's had a moment of clarity in an otherwise painful existence of self loathing. They're reaching out to someone asking them to be patient with them, to "stay a while and breath me in" and to "make me understand you're there for me". It's a cry for help.
IMO, referring to YOU. YOU have the power to change his life for the better or worse.
