In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
You're beautiful so silently
It lies beneath a shade of blue
It struck me so violently
When I looked at you
But others pass, they never pause
To feel that magic in your hand
To me you're like a wild rose
They never understand why
I cried for you
And the sky cried for you
And when you went
I became a hopeless drifter
But this life was not for you
Though I learned from you
That beauty need only be a whisper
I'll cross the sea for a different world
With your treasure, a secret for me to hold
In many years they may forget
This love of ours or that we met
They may not know how much you meant to me
I cried for you
And the sky cried for you
And when you went
I became a hopeless drifter
But this life was not for you
Though I learned from you
That beauty need only be a whisper
Without you now I see
How fragile the world can be
And I know you've gone away
But in my heart you'll always stay
I cried for you
And the sky cried for you
And when you went
I became a hopeless drifter
But this life was not for you
Though I learned from you
That beauty need only be a whisper
That beauty need only be a whisper
It lies beneath a shade of blue
It struck me so violently
When I looked at you
But others pass, they never pause
To feel that magic in your hand
To me you're like a wild rose
They never understand why
I cried for you
And the sky cried for you
And when you went
I became a hopeless drifter
But this life was not for you
Though I learned from you
That beauty need only be a whisper
I'll cross the sea for a different world
With your treasure, a secret for me to hold
In many years they may forget
This love of ours or that we met
They may not know how much you meant to me
I cried for you
And the sky cried for you
And when you went
I became a hopeless drifter
But this life was not for you
Though I learned from you
That beauty need only be a whisper
Without you now I see
How fragile the world can be
And I know you've gone away
But in my heart you'll always stay
I cried for you
And the sky cried for you
And when you went
I became a hopeless drifter
But this life was not for you
Though I learned from you
That beauty need only be a whisper
That beauty need only be a whisper

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
I love this song, it is so beautiful. especially the chorus.
How others can never truly understand how deeply and completely a love can run between two people (or how much one person can love someone else).
Beautiful.
This is such a beautiful song; it was played at my grandmother's cremation. I thought the lyrics fit perfectly... her voice is so pure and the instruments blend in so well. I think it can be about the loss of a person you love dearly, or a break-up. She realises that this person definitely had an impact on her life, and that she continues to cherish the beauty of the relationship they once had.
This song is beautiful.
from the first time i heard this song it touched me not just the lyrics but also her voice which is what i think makes the song what it is.
I think this song is about someone who perhaps was considered my most not beautiful, perhaps even ugly or strange. But the singer loved him/her not for what they where but for who they where. Now this person is gone, probably dead, and the singer is remembering that person and how he/she taught them that beauty does not lie in the features but in the heart. A beautiful song that makes my cry.
"And when you went I became a hopeless drifter"
That reminds me of me and my ex. Since he's gone i've just drifted around not really feeling anything.
The song as a whole makes me think of how people judged me and my ex for being together - my friends didn't think he was good enough for me but i love him and i didn't care what they thought because love is all that matters.
this song is about jesus and mary magdalene.
the whole thing is about jesus and how people didn't understand him and how she does, and then he ends up being crucified.
"It lies beneath a shade of blue " - apparently, if you see jesus in art wearing blue, it means something. i forgot what exactly, but apparently blue means love or something like that. not sure. anyways, i think this is what she's referring to.
"I'll cross the sea for a different world, With your treasure, a secret for me to hold" - hm... not so sure about this one. the only thing that comes to my mind is; if you've seen da vinci code, you'll know that some people think mary got pregnant with jesus's daughter and after he died she went to france and all the rest of the wack. might mean that. or maybe the treasure is just simply the fact that they love each other.
This song certainly sounds like it is religious. A lot of lines seem to point towards Jesus and Magdalen.
I cried for you When the sky cried for you And when you went I became a hopeless drifter
Hopeless drifter because Jesus gave hope to so many people. "The sky cried for you" could be a reference to God's will in having Jesus in heaven.
the song is about her perspective of how mary magdalene could have felt, when watching Jesus hanging on the cross.
