I got a secret, a terrible secret
And if I tell you would you promise to keep it secret?

I just put my head down every time you call my name.
Because they never understand me anyway.
Every time you call my name.
In the shape of a palm on the side of her face
Every time you call my name

He was our teacher
a Sunday school preacher
He made her stay after school one day while I waited
And I watched him take her
Beat her and rape her
And he said if you tell anyone i'll have god kill your mommy

So I just put my head down
every time he called me name
cause they never understand me anyway
every time you call my name
in the shape of a palm on the side of her face
every time you call my name

I got a secret, a terrible secret but you'd never understand it anyway
every time you call my name

In the shape of palm on the side of her face
Every time you call my name

Anyway,
Every time you call my name
In the shape of a palm on the side of her face
Every time you call my name

I got a secret

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
