I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
I'm just trying to get by
I'm just buzzing on a sugar high
Yeah
Everybody moves so fast
No time to wonder why
Yeah
I'm just trying to get by
Is it all in my head?
Is it all in my head?
Could everything be so right without me knowing?
I'm just working for the man
I'm just trying to lend a hand
Yeah
If I had a rocket ship
I'd never want to land
I'm just doing the best I can
Is it all in my head?
Is it all in my head?
Could everything be so right without me knowing?
Is it all just some game
Where everything stays the same?
Is it all in my, all in my, all in my head?
Everybody needs a little love
To make it all work out
But I'm still looking to the stars above
Hey hey hey
It's all in my head
It's all in my head
It's all in my, all in my, all in my, all in my
Is it all in my head?
Is it all in my head?
Could everything be so right without me knowing?
Is it all just some game
Where everything stays the same?
Is it all in my, all in my, all in my, all in my head
All in my head
I'm just buzzing on a sugar high

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.

Pretty self explanatory really...the guy doesn't know what's real in his life anymore, and whether things in his mind just seem more complicated than they really are.
cute
He almost questioning if hes jus making up all the bad things that are happening. Maybe if he jus stops thiinking about it he will realize things aint so bad.
Could everything be so right without me knowing?
He already had everything a man could want. Typical Man, didn’t even realize it. It’s a shame most of the time that’s what turns me off. When a man gives up a lifetime because he thinks something is better after all that, run ladies run! I should’ve listened to my BFF! Problem is I hold my parents on a pedestal but I don’t think they’re normal because they are the greatest and most people aren’t like them and most people don’t hang in any more. it’s a sad sad world.
