It's universal down on this planet we won't ever leave
And you know I really hate to say this, but you and I, I never thought we'd make it
This galaxy it spins in motion motionless to me
And you know I really hate to say this, but you and I, I never thought we'd make it
Just let the sky fold and fall into quiet sleep
Just let the sky take hold of us
We're so close but you're shaking far too much
Just let the sky take hold of us
We're so close but you're shaking far too much
Just let the sky take hold of us (You know I really ate to say this)
We're so close but you're shaking far too much (But you and I, I never thought we'd make it)
Just let the sky take hold of us (You know I really ate to say this)
We're so close but you're shaking far too much (But you and I, I never thought we'd make it)
You're shaking far too much

And it's gone
Yes, it's over
And the moment again passed us by
As the sun, it takes over one more night that we live and let die
So long, farewell, I'll take it as a compliment and I'll hope to break it
I know you're really suffering, but that's the way I had to make it
So long, farewell, I'll take it as a compliment and I'll promise to break it
I know you're really suffering, but that's the way I had to make it
So long, farewell, (So long, farewell) I'll take it as it comes
I'll take it as it comes
And that's the way I hope to take it

Just let her die one more time
Let her die one more time
Turn it up one more time
Let her die one more time
Turn it up one more time
Let her die one more time
Turn it up one more time
Let her die one more time
Turn it up one more time

Well then if that's the case just turn around, just turn around
I cannot handle this I'll drown it out, I'll drown it out
And for the sake of us just kill the sound, just kill the sound
Why'd I have to you?
Well then if that's the case just turn around, just turn around
I cannot handle this I'll drown it out, I'll drown it out
And for the sake of us just kill the sound, just kill the sound
Why I have to...

I'm not gonna try to be catchy, cliche, or write about what I haven't actually encountered in my life. I just wanna know what the fuck I'm singing about. And honestly, isn't everyone sick of people who think TV is reality? Because sometime's I feel like I'm living in a neverending episode of Dawson's Creek. "But oh, Scott, the kids deal with real life issues!" Fuck that. The truth is we're just a bunch of twenty year old kids who really like music. We play what we like. I feel sorry for those too surreen, who think we are ruining music. You're Death Cab is waiting outside. Music isn't a competition. It's a compilation of ideas. One band's success surely does not mean one's failure. Fighting should be left to those with bombs big enough to end it. Last time I checked I've never owned a bomb. Or have I? Just ignore those around you. Sit inside your petty bullshit. Just be cool, because someday this will all be over, and you'll be alone and being alone doesn't look that cool. The End.

So now I got five more times just to make things right
I shouldn't settle for less but I think I might
So just drive away or wish you'd stay
I know it's easy for you but I'm just not the same

So now I got four more times just to make things right
I shouldn't settle for less but I think I might
So just drive away or wish you'd stay
I know it's easy for you but I'm just not the same

So now I got three more times just to make things right
I shouldn't settle for less but I think I might
So just drive away or wish you'd stay
I know it's easy for you but I'm just not the same

So now I got two more times just to make things right
I shouldn't settle for less but I think I might
So just drive away or wish you'd stay
I know it's easy for you but I'm just not the same

So now I got one more time just to make things right
I shouldn't settle for less but I think I might
So just drive away or wish you'd stay
I know it's easy for you but I'm just not the same

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
