"Area" as written by David Craig, Barry Hyde, David Hyde and Ross Millard....
You have to stay in a hotel because your house was falling to pieces
You left your luggage in the hallway and a thief ran away with it (he ran away with it)
His excuse was boredom; tell me how bored you have to be
And I promise you won't be bored when it gets to the point that you're finished with me

You have to buy an alarm; the lasers pick up movements in the dark
It's better than a dog bark; it guarantees you can be secure at night (area, area, area, area)
Your area's in ruin, your area's in ruin (area), your area is free (area)
When it gets to the point that you're finished with me
When it gets to the point that you're finished with me and all the first are ready

Very certain that she has to go; where do you come from, what do you know?

The doors have metal plates fitted to the inside of the exit alleys to the front gates
Security's expensive; it can cost a fortune if you buy your locks from the wrong place
It's the area disgrace
It's the area disgrace
It's the area disgrace

(Area's in ruin, area's in ruin)

Ruin, ruin

When it gets to the point that you're finished with me and all the first are ready

Very certain that she has to go
Very certain that she has to go
Very certain that she has to go

Where do you come from, what do you know?

General CommentWhat the bloody hell is this song about? It's so catchy but the lyrics are so daft! Are they poking fun at people who live in rough places or what? I don't get it!

General CommentI think it's about a girl who leaves her broken home, and ends up getting raped. She then decides to arm herself incase it happens again. Pretty clever metaphors.

General CommentWow...that's a bit heavy lukefun...don't really agree with the "rape" comments but i'd say it's definitely having a go at the "rougher" urban areas and the necessary actions that people have to make to feel secure in their own homes because of the "constant threat" of yob culture.

Or summat like that :p Fuckin' beauty of a song tho! Can't wait for their second alb.

General Commentotori_wazmaster I would say you have hit the nail on the head, you can generally take the Futureheads quite literally with their lyrics (E.g. First Day, Stupid and Shallow)

General Commentperhaps they just stuck some heartbreak in with a social comment, with no connection?
